I find that a classical operatic composition, such as Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, or Mozart’s Kyrie Requiem in D minor, can be quite soothing to one’s nerves.

@QueenN22 O.O wow… people have said insensitive things to me before but like wow… I still don’t bother saying anything just because I don’t want it to strain the relationship if I’m not that close to them bc it’s like why bother I’ll never see them again but it’s probably a good thing to try to enlighten people
I did my essay on mistaken identity because I identify as Ethiopian but most people can’t tell so they think I’m Indian, Arabic, or just “African-American” which I technically am but the issue is they’re thinking of a different culture when they say that. Plus Ethiopian immigrants assume I’ve been Americanized and think I can’t understand what they’re saying sigh. I also wrote about my sister, because she’s younger than me so she’s more “American” than I am, so she’s gotten really screwed over by white standards of beauty and has really low self esteem which makes me so sad and angry
@Drewwwfoo I’m not a kbbq family–vegetarian, so not really my thing. Huge fan of soon tofu though!

@QueenN22 I totally relate to your holding back from putting your essay up for the same sort of reason. My essay is about my experience with poverty and starts with a quote from a girl who made a very insulting remark about those who have financial hardship. It sounds nicer than it is… unfortunately I am too nervous and proud to post it. Kind of different but same kind of taboo.
@lilypippili it was even worse because we were watching like the whole MLK/Rosa Parks documentary and this was said. It just hard cause I’m usually the only black person in the class and while I do have white, Asian and etc friends, people will always make sure that you are aware that you are different.
I’m sorry about your sister and I feel for her because I was in her position a couple of years ago. You know what I shouldn’t be ashamed of what my essay topic was about, I’m gonna say it. It was about my experience with skin bleaching.
