Harvard SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

@Soheils I was going to put “dragonmother” as my CC ID!

@schroscat thank you! I am no linguistics expert, and I have no idea what the second term means! Lol.

I am still waiting on my upunitive force.

Anyone else feel too lazy to go to their activities? I’ve skipped debate practice for like 3 weeks now…because our practices are pointless and I don’t care about it anymore as a senior…

On a scale of 1-10 how nervous are you guys? :open_mouth:

@cheerleader16 11… If I get deferred I will have to go up against more kids from my school applying RD

@cheerleader16 200. I honestly know that I will get deferred but I just want an acceptance so I don’t feel bad about myself and wonder what else I could’ve done to stand out. I honestly just hope i made it to the committee round before getting deferred…

How many people are applying from your school

SCEA just me, RD about 10 (all competitive applicants)

In all honesty, I’m not nervous at all besides the whole typical simply waiting for something type of anxiety. At this point, I think I could say I got deferred and move onto my other apps. It probably has to do with the 6% acceptance rate and even though SCEA is higher, it still is generally the same low acceptance value. To me Harvard is not the end all. If I get in, great but if I don’t, life moves on

I think I may be the only on applying to Harvard in my school at least that I know of. Most people are trying Brown or Cornell.

@QueenN22 what other schools are you applying? Yeah I think for me its just I haven’t received any rejections or acceptances yet so I just am worried about the actual receiving of the rejection. But I’ve kindof kept in mind parts I love and dislike about all my schools so I can be ok with rejection and ecstatic for acceptance ;

@QueenN22 @snackpack02 did anyone from your school get in last year?

@verizonwireless From what I’ve noticed, every year at least 1 person gets into an Ivy (for last 4-5 years), but most of top 20% either go to a top 50 school or Rutgers/TCNJ/NJIT. Also some people do get into like top 25 schools but can’t afford them so it’s state colleges instead
@tuty143 Othe than Harvard, there is UPenn, Tufts, Barnard College, Boston College, Rutgers and TCNJ

@verizonwireless yes only 1 person, and it was SCEA!!

@QueenN22 I’m applying to UPenn and BC too! maybe I’ll see you at one of those schools.

@tuty143 that would be great to (sort of) know someone where I might not know anyone
Also no one in recent years has gotten into Harvard. Last year it’s was Princeton, year before UPenn, then Cornell, I think my school has mostly UPenn acceptances

@QueenN22 yeah definitely. I know that people at my school have been accepted to Brown (my brother included) and Georgetown, but really most strive for Notre Dame if they are high achievers (im in the mid west) so not too many Ivy acceptances.

Yeah most people stay on the East Coast (usually NJ, NY,MA,DE and VA) but there are definitely a few strays there too. On the other hand some people go across to California. That’s usually it East Coast or California, very rarely have I heard anyone apply to the Midwest or even South besides Georgia or Virginia (if you even consider that in the South)

I was looking at Georgetown for awhile until I saw that they wanted 3 subject tests. 2 is enough for me!
