lol my mom thinks i have no chance of getting in
@tttttttttttttom why?
@tuty143 yeah, they sent a second email saying the first one was wrong.
@Sajidur4 That must be such a horrible feeling!
i haven’t told anybody (except my parents ofc)
I’m just so scared to login to that website…I just know that I’m going to be deferred. I can feel it. I’m going to find out at 2:00 because west coast.
Oh well.
I am going to find out at 3 in the morning because I am from the REAL (middle) EAST.
@schroscat i think mostly because i don’t have some amazing talent or something that really sets me apart. i’m pretty much just a middle class white male with good stats, good recs, decent essays, and decent ec’s
@tttttttttttttom You never know what will happen in admissions. We just don’t know. You may be pleasantly surprised.
@Soheils I’m so terribly sorry. At least you’ll have a pleasant start of the day? (I’m fairly certain you will be accepted, honestly.)
I have been thinking over and over again about everything I could have done better in high school. If I could just go back 3 years and give past me advice.
@tuty143 “Study for geometry; I know you think that you’ll naturally get better at it, but you’ll need to stop kidding yourself.”
@schroscat a weekend day that begins with a 5 hour examination is seldom pleasant.
Thank you! May I ask why?
Lets hope that we all become classmates.
@schroscat “don’t take the ACT your sophomore year. Yes you’re ahead in classes, but you wont be ready until your junior and senior years”
Why do I get the feeling when we post decisions its gonna be:
Deferred
Deferred
Deferred
Deferred
Accepted!!
Just kidding…Deferred :((
Deferr…
Defe…
Def…
De…
D…

@Soheils You’re extremely well-read and you’re well-versed in a multitude of topics. When Harvard thinks of diversity, I bet an image of you shows up. Your intellectualism shines through in your comments; it would be a shame if adcoms overlooked that.
@schroscat agreed about Soheil, honestly if he can’t get accepted I don’t know who can
@Soheils Southeast Asia represent!! I’ll find out at 6 in the morning ugh
@karakoram Agreed!
You two are too nice to me. I can not thank you enough for this boost in self-esteem, which is something I need in these days.
@schroscat Do not sell yourself short. Based on what I know about you (which is admittedly not much), you are one of the strongest persons I have ever known. You have emerged as what the Iranian call “well watered steel” from a personal tragedy that would have been fatal to many, if not most, and you still managed to achieve more than most people of our age. More importantly, you have not allowed your ambition to be extinguished by the events in your life. In fact, ambitious middle easterners are quite rare, since our culture (I am almost positive that the turkish culture shares this with my culture) is very discouraging towards people who are not content.
@karakoram Due to the lack of threads or other info, I can not comment as much, but the very fact that you managed to salvage my actual name out of my username shows that you are very very well read.
BTW, six in the morning is MUCH better than 3. I also have a 5 hour exam on that morning, which includes all subjects, so if I am sad, I am screwed.
also, schros, Can you turkey Turks understand Turkomans? (My grandmother is a turkmen)
@Soheils You’re being too kind. Admittedly, I have been able to accomplish quite a lot despite my circumstances, I doubt that Harvard will recognize that. But I thank you for your confidence.
In regards to your question: both Turkish and Turkmen are similar to each other both in grammar and oral aspects, so it would be safe to assume that we could. Although I’ve never had the opportunity to speak to someone who is versed in Turkmen, they are both Turkic languages; if both parties spoke slowly, I don’t see why communication could not be established.
@Soheils there’s this really talented Iranian-American pianist called Soheil Nasseri so I assumed that as a fellow Persian you must share the same name. Is it a really popular name in Iran? Also good luck for your exam! 5 hours sounds pretty brutal…
@schroscat what about Turkic languages as far away geographically as Uyghur, Kazakh etc? Also I was reading about Laz, apparently it’s quite similar to Georgian? I love Kartvelian languages, their script is so unique haha
@karakoram not really popular, but it is not uncommon. For some unknown reason, it is sometimes associated with spoiled rich kids. my full name is very uncommon though. thanks for the good will.
@schroscat Karakoram asked what I wanted to ask. Can you understand Uzbek or Kirghiz Turks? How about Altaic but not Turkic languages like Mongolian? Also, won’t you have problems with the vast amount of Persian and Arabic loan words Turkomans and Azeris use?
