It’s so hard to wait but I keep remembering about my brother when he was accepted 3 years ago. He really, REALLY wanted to go to Yale and was deferred. He was so upset. Then he applied to other schools and if I remember right, Northwestern, BC and Wash U, I think Dartmouth Princeton and Brown. He just sort of threw in Harvard knowing the chances were so slim. He had good scores and grades, I think around 2250 on the SAT, but nothing else all that special. Some clubs, drama, but nothing that was like “oh wow”. On decision day, he couldn’t get into the Harvard portal so he opened the other ones. He was rejected from Brown, rejected at Yale, accepted to BC, and waitlisted at dartmouth and Princeton. We kept waiting for the email or the harvard portal to work thinking no way he would be accepted. I wanted to leave the house he and my mom were so upset. Finally about half hour later, the email came and and he started yelling. I couldn’t understand him so I thought he was rejected but he was accepted. I really think it’s a crap shoot because he had no hook whatsoever but now I know why he was so stressed because I hate this waiting.

It’s about a Yale admission – but it gives a ton of light on what you are all talking about.
@aharper98 That’s a really interesting article! I’ve always wondered if admissions committees do peg us as certain individuals for the sake of admissions. I wonder what I would be pegged as?
Getting very emotional here… Love you all! :-bd
checking this thread between every class break
@Sajidur4 so glad im not the only one.
Called admissions! Decisions are coming out the 10th after 5 P.M. for sure!
(Unless something changes)
:-t
Does anyone else get kind of bothered when people say “wow you’re applying to Harvard? That’s amazing!”…like i guess…but literally anyone can apply somewhere but getting in is a whole different story.
@tuty143 Yea totally. Its gonna make having to tell them i was deferred even harder.
@tuty143 YESS, oh my goodness that annoys me so much. I was at one of my friends house and she asked and I told her and I swear she started treating me differently afterwards, it was so awkward
@giraffeinatree @redrabbit23 Most of the time when people are asking they are asking multiple students. I always say “I’m looking east coast” but they press and press until they get harvard out of me. And then the student after me goes “well…tough to follow that up I guess…” and then name a state college. Like no, there is no shame in applying and going to a state school they are wonderful academically. Honestly they think I’m bashing them by just listing my college choices.
@tuty143 I know what you mean! When the topic of college comes up, I pray that no one asks me where I applied to. Also, I didn’t apply to my state school or any other schools early so I’m stuck saying Harvard
In case you didn’t know, traditionally, most of the Harvard early notifications go out the second Thursday in December. That’s in less than a week, so just thought I’d give you all a heads up. Good luck!
@penguinx99 We already figured it out because so many of us are so anxious we called in and bothered the poor admissions office! but thanks for thinking of us!
What stage do you think the admissions officers are at in the decisions process?
@Soheils @karakoram Like I said, all Turkic languages come from the same roots; I’m sure with some practice one would be able to comprehend both Turkish and Turkmen, as well as other derivatives of the Turkic roots. I’m not well versed in other languages, so I could very well be incorrect regarding this. I’d love to study this topic in more depth, and I’m actually rather interested if one could learn another Turkic language rather easily like one who is learning another Romance language. Script aside, I’ve been able to pick up the similarities between Arabic and Farsi with Turkish–although I’m unsure to what extent these similarities extend to in terms of comprehension.
