Hello! I am an aspiring harvard student just like the million others, and I would absolutley apreaciate it if you Harvard students answered my questions!!
First off I’m a 9th grader so thats why my questions seem dumb :)

What do you do in your application essays? Is there a prompt question or do you write about whatever you want?

What’s your standing out feature? To even be looked at you need perfect grades, but what was your special feature that made you stand out?

Does Harvard have a good community? When you visited or if you live there do you like the vibe of the campus?

How do interviews work? What do they ask or talk to you about usually?

Can race help or hurt you? Ive heard people say things that confused me. Ive heard that if you for example are African and wear a headdress you stand out a little more than a caucasian because they want to be more diverse. Is this true? And i want the truth please!

Thank you so much for taking the time to look at this! I apreciate all responses! Again thank you!

There are tons of books available on line about college admissions, that may also be available through your local library or book store. Among my favorites:

-- A Is for Admission: The Insider’s Guide to Getting into the Ivy League and Other Top Colleges by Michele A. Hern

Or there have been many, many threads by kids your age asking the same exact questions on CC… I am not going to find them for you (mainly because i don’t know how), but Gibby might :)

Better yet, find them yourself. Think of it as the first step in the long, hard road to acceptance to an elite college. Pass this test and your on your way!
