Harvard Summer School Program

Does doing this program significantly increase one’s chance of getting in?

No, because it’s not especially selective.

Really??Wow. It said on the website that it was as hard to get into it as it was into the college itself.

I will probably use the summer to perhaps do a science project for Siemen’s Westinghouse Competition or work with local researchers maybe

No, its not selective. Basically, if you want to pay them $8000, they let you come take their classes for the summer.

If you’re really good at research and science/math, you could try applying for MIT and CalTech’s RSI (Research Science Institute). RSI is very selective with about a 10% acceptance rate, and if you get in, you’re basically gold at all the Ivies except possibly Harvard (strong chance tho). Also, apply to other science research programs that you can find, because usually those are better than just working with local researchers, unless those locals are very good.

Thanks for the advice! :)

This is random, but if you are into filmmaking, theater, or writing, Nyu: Tisch has one of the best (and I pretty sure the most selective) summer program. I went this summer and they told us they accept 3%…crazy. Anyway, the program is increible…I highly recommend it for all of the arts.
