Harvard University Class of 2022 SCEA Applicants Thread

@MaybeHarvard2022 ahh thats awesome! Have you already committed?

@charrav no, applied to a few more schools RD. But there’s a good chance i’ll end up at H.

@MaybeHarvard2022 Nice nice. Hope to see you in the fall!

Business casual is fine

While one could dress formally, it’s likely no one else will.

Anyone still missing their letter

Anyone still missing their letter?

@Hoikulik123 At this point, I would probably call the office - they may have gotten your address wrong or it got lost in the mail. Don’t worry, they’ll probably just send another copy. I know of a few accepted international students who all received their letters late December/early Jan.

Why did you apply early to Harvard? What do you love about it?

Can you guys chance me? I was deferred in the EA round, and received a fee waiver.

ACT: 32
GPA: 3.84
RANK: Top 10%
AP’s: Took 11, 6 senior year and received straight A’s for mid-years & straight A’s junior year in 5 AP’s
Wrote essay on: Very personal topic regarding family issues and how they affected me
Recommendations: Extremely sweet! Submitted two additional recs for RD.

Extracurriculars:

 • Founded a news organization that has been featured in Now This, Teen Vogue, Bust Magazine, and more. Partnered with UNICEF, Mogul, and other orgs across the world. We’ve garnered tens of thousands of views each week.
 • Appointed US Ambassador for United Nations Global Schools initiative due to humanitarian work and my news network. I’ve represented the US at high-profile conferences at places like the German Consulate, ECOSOC, and more.

 • Mogul Influencer and Honorary leader of Gifts of Awesome
 • Working on app with UN Women to teach women across the world about sexual health
 • In school: President of Mogul, Girls Up, DECA, and Politics club

I know my stats are low :frowning: Do I have any chance at being accepted RD?

@fhhg890 in the end, it doesn’t depend on your stats or achievements, but the stats/achievements of everyone else applying. Incredible people are rejected every year so “chancing” has basically no merit. Just hope that you can stand out compared to everyone else. No need to worry yourself over what chances random people give you on CC. You have a little over a week left. Deep breaths and relax until then. Good luck!

I agree with @LondonVall , there’s only a week or so until the notice goes out. Doesn’t make any sense to stress yourself out with a chance me post, when there’s absolutely nothing you can do but wait. For most people applying, the answer to your last question is yes, there is a chance, but with less than 6% acceptance rate from among tens of thousands of superkids, it may also mean how lucky you are as well.

I’m a muffin.

I’ve spoken to several admission officers about this topic at length and one of the best pieces of insight I was given was…“Make your application remarkable.”

It may sound a bit obvious, but being remarkable is very difficult for high school students…for the fact that you are all so young and have had very limited opportunities to show your ability to impact the world.

An unremarkable application:
SAT: 1580
GPA: 4.0
Coursework: 6 AP classes
Essay topic: Leading Academic Decathlon team to Nationals

A remarkable application:
SAT: 1480
GPA: 3.8
Essay topic:
Starting the first Academic Decathlon program in the state and helping other schools in the same county start their program.

Note: The first application is not remarkable, because the student took a very traditional route. NOT to say that it is not very impressive; however, the second student did not follow a traditional path taken. No, they created their own path and doing so shows incredible courage.

Showing slivers of entrepreneurship and passion conveys that an applicant has grit and turns an ordinary application into a remarkable one.

One way to do this is get your app/essay reviewed by a current Harvard student. The best way I’ve found to do this is by leveraging your Network (family friends, high school alumni), using LinkedIn or Scribble.

Hope that is helpful. Best of luck to all applicants!
