Harvard V. Yale V. Johns Hopkins

I currently hold acceptaces to Harvard, Yale, and Johns Hopkins. Harvard and Yale with full scholarships, and John Hopkins with a 57,000 $ scholarship meaning i’ll have to pay 5,000 $. I want to go into medicine, and am not sure which school would offer the best preperation for medical school. Any opinions from others who have made such a decision, current med-school students, or other pre-med majors. Your thought and opinions are well appreciated.

Since you’re a full FinAid recipient (not scholarship per se) from Y and H, that’s an indication of your family’s financial status. $5000 to your family would seem a huge challenge, IMHO. It’s likely that both H and Y will hold local receptions for admitted students – go to them and interact w/alumni and ask. Go to Visitas and Bulldog Days and whatever JHU has. Since you’re on full FinAid, I know both H and Y would be able to assist you with travel expenses. JHU may do the same.

Each of them will prepare you equally for eventual med school admissions, if you decide to remain on that path. Thus, you should decide based on other intangibles. The $20K bill for 4 yrs from JHU would, to me, seem to be a strike against them – especially since you’ll be looking at $100s of thousands in debt for Med School down the line.

I agree with T26E4. There isn’t going to be any noticeable difference on how well each of those schools prepare you for medical school. I would probably cross Johns Hopkins off your list and decide between your free rides. MCAT score may be your biggest factor getting into med school, and I don’t see your score varying regardless of which school you pick. In my opinion, visit Yale and Harvard and decide where you feel the most comfortable.
