good luck, all of you.

This summer I will be attending Harvard’s Summer School for highschool students. I will be taking Introduction to Psychology and Introduction to Philosophy. Does anyone know what books, not textbooks, these classes read?

College counselor just forwarded an email from the regional reader that they do not expect to take any more than 20 from the wait list, if that. they will know by weeks end. My S is happy enough with his enrollment but he will be disappointed. ![]()
Good luck everyone!

Aww. Okay
Will they notify those rejected by the end of the week as well?

Our college counselor didn’t know when they would officially notify the applicants but the adcom rep did say that she would get back to her with an update by the end of the week. I suspect that, at a minimum, this is when they will be publishing their yield results.

@chilaxin can you pls post that email here for us all to see?

DRamirez24,

If the syllabus is not available on the summer school course website you can check the Havard Coop Texbook website here:

<a href=“Find Course Materials | The Harvard Coop”>Find Course Materials | The Harvard Coop;

However sometimes you can purchase an older edition for a much cheaper price and that would be noted on the syllabus. In any event the Coop is very expensive. Check out what you need by referencing the ISBN# on the above site and then go to Amazon and order.

Hey guys. Here is the bad news forwarded to me by my interviewer:

"Hi …,

There are very few spots on the wait list. In fact, the number of students admitted from it may very well be in the single digits. We came in right at our target this year, so the only reason we will take a handful of students will be in anticipation of those previously admitted students who will elect to take a gap year.

I hope that helps!"

I have adopted the “it’s not over till the fat lady sings” mentality but this is definitely disheartening news.

I’m just curious: How does Harvard notify those they take off the waitlist? And do they let folks on the waitlist know when the class is full?

Just so you know, the first rejection e-mail “blast” went out last year on May 19th. I just went over to this page from last year:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/898910-harvard-waitlist-waiting-room-2014-thread-96.html

That’s when my daughter and a ton of other people got the news. By then she had moved on and was in “whatever” mode, so that was good. She had already fallen in love with the school that she had accepted, and she loves it still. Waitlist hell is miserable. You will all be happy somewhere. I check in here every once in a while just to keep making this point - you can be blissfully happy at many institutions of higher education.

Good luck to all of you…again!

decemberbaby: here is the body of that email from the regional adcom rep to my sons college counselor:

“I’m sorry about the delayed response. I know you wanted to talk to me about Cxxxx and his place on the wait list. Things are looking pretty tough over here. It looks like we are full and if we go to the wait list, we’ll probably take less than 20 students. I’m sorry for the sad news. Cxxxx was a great applicant. I’ll let you know.”

:(

apparently none of my regional reps got my email from April =(, so I “just” re-sent it. Not like there was too much hope anyway, but that seems to clinch it, no? Anyways, good luck everyone. Guess I can’t complain about a free education in these turbulent economic times.

Sorry for the double post, wouldn’t let me edit, but check out this article. Great life story. Guess thats what it takes to get into Harvard these days ;). In all seriousness, congrats to this kid for his amazing choices

My D’s couselor rec a call late last week to verify she would not be attending H last week. My D did mail in the post card on the first. So hopefully there will be more spots like hers opening up by those kids who could not make their final decsion till May 1. Good luck to all.

@redguard117, how do you know your regional rep didn’t receive your e-mail?

I’ve mailed in some, and have sent an e-mail- but have never received any confirmation/hear anything from her at all… Since they don’t track additional information, I don’t think calling would do me much good either.

lucky for the yale and princeton WL kids lool

^ Sorry, but I don’t really understand what you meant by that… why would it be lucky for yale/princeton WL kids?

I’m taking a guess that many HYP cross admits chose Harvard, hence the high yield. So WL kids at Y and P might have better luck than us.

Oh. LOL thanks for clarifying. I thought that was what you might have meant but wasn’t sure why you specified Yale and Princeton since other schools like Stanford and Penn may have had just as many potential cross admits as well.

My intuition is that Harvard’s dramatic increase in financial aid might have something to do with the apparently slightly-higher yield; if so, then rather than Yale and Princeton it could be good state schools offering basically free schooling that are suffering more (though I’m sure it also affected Yale/Princeton). Also, considering MIT apparently took 26 people off the waitlist (compared to 60 last year), the odds probably are relatively good for Yale and Princeton waitlistees.

Anyways, sorry to get off topic - I’m pretty humongously disappointed that the waitlist is apparently <20 people. Of course. I’m on it too, and I’d say there’s a pretty darn good chance that I’d choose Harvard if I get accepted, but I’m actually hoping more that someone I know gets taken off. Not too likely with the <20 people thing…

Also, I like your location Fatum ;-)
