Harvard Waitlist 2015 **discuss here**

Yes - it’ll also come in handy for you on campus since even the tiniest dorm room will be bigger on the inside! :)

hahah yeah by YP i meant peer schools, succumbed to sterotypes there lool.

@heavyessay and gadad, could u be…O: A FELLOW FAN? lol!

^^ I also know of a story like the one above. The guy who it belongs to is the only person at my school who got in out of at least three outstanding applicants and one average one (me). The rest of us were waitlisted, but I don’t think the others chose to accept. From the grim posts above it sounds like it may have been the less torturous decision…

Well, I’m not optimistic at all after hearing the news, but it isn’t impossible for some of use (probably no more than 2 or 3 from CC) to get off or be z-listed.

lylaskk: I sent her another email asking if she had received it and reaffirming my interest in attending, and she was like no i didn’t. yeah ■■■

With single digit admits, I can’t see Harvard reviewing applications. I’m guessing the ten or so admits will be people who have donated millions and know Fitzsimmons personally, unfortunately I am neither…

^ Well, when I called they said they were in meetings, so I don’t know how valid your assessment is. I suppose if they were to just take donors, they would take the 10 or 20 who gave the most.

This is so depressing. I don’t know whether to call and ask if they received my letter - I’m leaning towards not. What do you guys think? Ah, this is sad, I was really holding out hope that a few of us would be accepted…

<a href=“Legacy Admit Rate at 30 Percent | News | The Harvard Crimson”>http://www.thecrimson.com/article/2011/5/11/admissions-fitzsimmons-legacy-legacies/

And this is why none of us will get off the waitlist… sigh

I’m not sure why you think that the fact that Harvard already lets in 30% of their legacy admits would have any effect on our chances as waitlisters. Certainly, nobody has what I would call a good shot, but those 20 or so people who will be existed have to exist, and I’m not convinced that they have to be donors/legacies.

Has anyone else noticed they are no longer able to log onto the student portal? I was able to view it until yesterday…

Link to student portal please

My rep wrote back to me today, telling me that they only expect to accept 5 to 10 students off the wait-list due to a incredibly strong yield. Not trying to be a wet blanket here, but you know, better realistic than overtly optimistic. That said, people ARE still going to be accepted (albeit very few), so fingers crossed!

I just called in, the guy said they have been having waiting list meetings all day. So the good news is that they ARE using it. I tried to gauge if they are admitting very few or not, but I couldn’t really get anything. Keep in mind that harvard strongly encourages gap years, and in the past 50-70 kids have taken one per year.

^MethodicSquirrel I really hope you’re right, because I think its our only hope for this year!

They would have factored that estimate of gap year people into the total admissions number.

If they only have ~10 people to select, do you think they’d call the accepted students/send out acceptances tonight (or sometime soon)?

Hope it is soon…my S wants this to be over with one way or the other! ;)

I meant to say send out ** rejections **. Whoops.

I’ve gone up and down on this. But for now, i’m optimistic and keep imagining getting a call, even though I know that is extremely, extremely improbable.

I talked to the admissions office today, and they said that it’s not necessarily a cause for concern if you never heard back from your regional representative. They also said that decisions would be out “soon, and definitely before the end of the month.” I didn’t ask, the lady just volunteered that information. But I sincerely doubt they’ll be out tonight - they just started evaluating probably a thousand people, so hopefully they don’t already have their minds made up :/. Also, this is just a side note, but has anyone else noticed that Harvard Admissions has like the nicest office ever? They’ve wished me good luck and been super helpful every time I’ve called.
