What was even the point of the Admissions Office saying this…
Harvard isn’t the only school doing this to kids. They all are.
My son was strung on by Dartmouth from Dec 13th (deferred from ED) to July 15th when the waitlist finally closed after never moving at all. That was 8 MONTHS of limbo when I’m sure for a good part of it they knew they were never taking him off the list. And yet they had about a dozen two-way communications with him and many others (2 others from his school alone!) during that time.
Notre Dame just closed 2 days ago and rejected everyone after also stringing them on with two-way communication and updates for months. My son’s friend was on this list.
Those are just 2 schools that I know of personally.
It’s not unique to Harvard. The schools all do it.
They just hire some random persons to answer the phone and they know nothing but are allowed to spew random ■■■■ apparently.
It’s disgraceful behavior from Harvard regardless. A blatant lack of communication or even an apology for their handling of the waitlist.
I genuinely hate that Harvard is even doing this. I genuinely hope that the people responsible for the battle against Trump at Harvard have a terrible life. What kind of fuc.k.@s.s school puts people on a waitlist ALL THE WAY OUT THROUGH AUGUST??? Oh well, it is what it is at this point.
I’ll be at my state school, which I don’t mind heading to. Best of luck to everyone else and their future endeavors!
Rejected - agreed this was cruel. Stringing us along for so long with little information. Heading to Princeton.
You guys are all awesome though. So glad to find this group to commiserate with for all these months. Best of luck to you all!
What I’ve learned about Harvard is that it operates with little to no accountability. It seems they can do whatever they want—admit whomever they choose without merit, and treat others unfairly without consequence. This pattern shows up in major issues, such as confirmed cases of racial discrimination in admissions, as well as in smaller matters, like hiring people with no clear purpose or role. Given this culture, I don’t object to the Trump administration stepping in to shake things up, because these problems need to be addressed and brought to an end.
I don’t ask this to be deliberately provocative. I haven’t been paying very close attention to this situation.
Is your frustration just that Harvard kept the waitlist saga dragging on so close to the actual school year or is it something else? Harvard is in the middle of unprecedented legal battles and dealing with an international student situation that is also without precedent. I’m not sure what they were supposed to do differently in all of this. If this was all so frustrating for a very long time, why not decline the waitlist?
i share the same grievances as the rest of you in this thread what a pathetic handling of the wl situation from harvard – still i know that all our futures are incredibly bright ! I can’t wait to see you all do wonderful things !!!
Congrats to everyone—making it this far is an achievement in itself. But let’s be honest: many of us bought into Harvard’s “Veritas” motto a bit too easily. That shiny promise of “full tuition for families under $200K” feels more like marketing than an actual guarantee. That said, I have no hard feelings. I’ve learned a lot from this admissions cycle, and I’m genuinely grateful for the journey. This November at The Game—Yale vs. Harvard—I’ll be in the stands shouting my heart out: Harvard sucks!
I’m going there too
I’m very unhappy with the school I would now have to attend with Harvard out of the picture. I’m considering not enrolling in any college this fall and instead applying to several schools in the upcoming months. Is this a feasible strategy?
1st year transfer?
Not as important, but did anyone get an email from Harvard asking them to check their portal? I did not, and If I hadn’t seen here to check my portal, I wouldn’t have even known that I got rejected.
Surely Harvard’s legal situation should not prevent them from sending emails—a common courtesy…
I got an email at 2:30pm pt
Dear ___,

Harvard College Admissions
Well, I got my closure! Peace out and good luck to yall, it’s been a crazy ride. I hope you all are happy with everywhere you’re going, and rest assured knowing most places are better places to be in 2025 than Harvard. Moving in to Pomona in a week, see you all!
Why not attend the school you were accepted to attend also apply for a transfer while you are there. Especially if you do well there, you can get college professors and your first semester transcript to make you desirable to other colleges.
I never received one at all. Just checked because I heard about it here in our forum
I believe transferring schools has a lower success rate than applying as a first year.
Additionally, the major that I’d want to transfer into is different from what I’d be studying at my state school. My resume is not really tailored toward what I’m studying at my state school - I applied for that major only because my state school is poor in other areas. This is really a worse case scenario…
