Has anyone been following the Harvard Westlake Water Polo lawsuit? If the allegations are true, it’s amazing that the school didn’t step-in earlier to protect its students. I can’t imagine that the administrators would ignore these kind of issues. Is this common in water polo culture?

What is now called assault has long been part of the game. That is a terrible article and obviously that team is a mess, HW’s non response is a mess, and the whole sport has issues.
Compare that to Viewpoint’s recent scandal where one 11 year old student thought a teacher was taking funny pictures, immediately talked to a teacher after having recently attended the schools “if you see somethings, say something” talk, and the teacher left the school in handcuffs.
If the sport has this much assault occurring, then in some sense, it’s odd that it took so long for someone to speak up. I wouldn’t expect that any school would tolerate this kind of behavior among its students in this day and age.
H-W doesn’t get discussed here very often but there definitely have been things going on there and school needs to take responsibility. I remember a few years ago there were multiple student suicides happening within a short period of time, then a parent of one of the students. It was all over the news. However it remains a very popular school in southern Cal and many parents still try everything they can to send their kids there.
