Harvey Weinstein

The link in #166 - there is a pattern: a young, pretty, new to acting woman in her early twenties was his targeted victim.

And some speculated that it came out now finally since his power and Weinstein Co is waning. Otherwise, it may still be going on.

There is audio circulating on mainstream media obtained during an attempted NYPD sting based on some sort of assault charge. There clearly was not enough to take it further but you can hear his modus operandi – insinuating that she doesn’t want to ruin her friendship with him. He was asking her to sit in the hotel room while he took a shower.

Will you all now not got to Weinstein movies? Hit him where it hurts, his wallet?

I’ve been watching Leah Remini’s series on Scientology. It is very hard for me to consider watching anything with scientologists in them because I know that directly or indirectly, the money is going back to Scientology.

All these women are now coming out – it’ll end up that being harassed by HW is some kind of a sick badge of honor in Hollywood…

A recording and 3 allegations of rape: The Harvey Weinstein story just got so much worse. Ther’s the recording half way down.

I’m not buying that “showing bosoms”= more likely to be sexually harassed vs. “not showing bosoms”=more respect=not sexually harassed. This is all about power, not respect or sexual arousal or anything like that. If you don’t have a power differential, it doesn’t happen, regardless of what the victim is wearing.

Personally, I am fascinated by the fact that the article in The New Yorker was written by Ronan Farrow, of all people!

I had been wondering why Mira Sorvino, who is a really, really good actress–see Whit Stillman’s Barcelona-- was not appearing in anything…

Agreed, @Consolation: Ronan Farrow writing the piece is… well, fascinating

My guess would be Farrow asked for the assignment.

Over the years, you hear mention of certain actresses (it seems like more than actors) as being “difficult to work with” and those having trouble getting work. Now, it makes me wonder what the charges of “being difficult” were based on…

Well, USC has announced that it is turning down Weinstein’s $5 million pledge which was supposed to go towards helping develop a program for women filmmakers.http://variety.com/2017/film/news/harvey-weinstein-scandal-usc-1202586250/

Re USC gift - It was probably just a mechanism for him to develop a new stable of young “talent”.

I can’t believe he called Gweneth Paltrow and yelled at her over and over. He was quite sure of his position, wasn’t he?

@greenwitch - as I read it, it apparently happened back in the day when she was still in her twenties.

The NY DA’s office says the audio recording is revolting, but not enough to establish criminal intent.

On the one hand, I hate that DAs refuse to prosecute sex crimes. On the other hand, men accused of sex crimes keep not getting convicted even when it seems like the evidence is overwhelming. (Bill Cosby wasn’t convicted, even though he had scores of unconnected accusers.) And we shouldn’t pay DAs to prosecute futile cases.

Yes, but still! She had dared to say no to him and got her boyfriend’s backup on it. You think he would be a bit cowed.

When I was 22, I was assaulted by a man I was interviewing with in the hopes of his offering me a job. I never told anyone until years later.

I think we’ve reached a tipping point, and women aren’t going to be ashamed and quiet anymore.

Apparently he’s taking a private jet to Europe for sex addiction treatment.

And his wife just stated that she’s leaving him.

Oh, he’s calling sexual assault “sex addiction”? Does he say someone who robs grocery stores has a weight problem? Missing the criminal portion of the problem.
