We had a lengthy discussion on Roger Tiles, Bill Cosby. Here comes Harvey Weinstein. From the looks of it, he seems sleazier than anyone so far, Massage me nude, watch take a shower? For 30 years?
It’s astounding how these things are kept secret for so long. But apparently he has a nasty temper, is very intimidating and has a lot of power in the industry. All a recipe to intimidate less powerful and ambitious actresses to be quiet. And now he says he’s going to work on it? Not buying it. Now he got outed.
He’s so powerful that I can see why these women didn’t go public before now.
I really don’t know what’s wrong with some men. The list of powerful men harassing women, mistreating women, taking photos of their genitals, carousing with prostitutes and other sleazy, risky behavior is endless.
But as long as other people tolerate this behavior by not shunning these individuals, refusing to do business with them, publically outing them, the horrendous behavior will go on.
There are articles this morning in the LA Times and the Daily Mail on how quiet most Hollywood stars have been about Weinstein, making no statements decrying his behavior.
Taking a “leave of absence”:

@eyemamom – apparently it wasn’t a secret. Apparently HW’s behavior was widely known throughout the entertainment community, but no one spoke out because he was too powerful, too intimidating. Now that his career is waning and he (apparently) doesn’t have the pull to destroy careers, these older, more secure women can speak out on what happened when they were ingenues.
I always liked the work ingenue.
Maybe more will come forward now that Ashley Judd went public. That happened with Bill Cosby and Roger Ailes.
Weinstein’s victims, young women trying to make careers in entertainment, were in no position to shun one of the most powerful people in Hollywood or to refuse to do business with him. And when young women try to out powerful men who are sex abusers, it usually doesn’t go well for the women. They tend to get attacked. Why were Roger Ailes and Bill O’Reilly allowed to continue in their powerful positions? Because they were powerful and the women they attacked were powerless.
I’m not convinced that Weinstein’s disgusting behavior was as generally known as some are maintaining. Malia Obama probably could have interned anywhere, but she interned for Weinstein. Most parents would try to talk their daughters out of taking such a position if they knew their daughter would be working for a man who did things like masturbate in front of unwilling, shocked young women, especially if their daughter had a wealth of other choices.
More are coming out and Bloom is stepping down,
This guy is beyond the normal disgusting.
It was an inside knowledge, not public knowledge. I guess insiders didn’t think to inform the Obamas.
“I think people just can’t believe their eyes, that a story so many people have whispered about for so long has finally made it to publication,”

“Open secrets” are more secret than people are willing to acknowledge. For example, when news personality Gretchen Carlson sued Roger Ailes for sexual harassment, news personality Greta van Susteren defended him. Later, as more allegations surfaced, van Susteren admitted she was wrong. Occam’s Razor tells me van Susteren sincerely believed if the allegations had been true, she would have known-- but they were true, and she didn’t know. His disgusting behavior was no doubt known to many, but also unknown to many.
The same is no doubt true of Weinstein: many beautiful young women and their close friends knew all along, but many other Weinstein associates did not know.
Lisa Bloom has resigned as his lawyer.
I was surprised Bloom was representing him in the first place. Glad she came to her senses and stepped down. But in an interview this week she said something bizarre. That she felt it was a case of workplace misconduct but not sexual harassment. I guess that is lawyer speak for I’m following the money and I have a movie deal for my book with his company!
I’m assuming that Lisa Bloom believed what her client had told her. Then when she found out he had lied to her (for example not telling her the nauseating story about his masturbating in front of a young reporter), she quit. This seems to me to be standard practice for lawyers-- you can’t defend a client who doesn’t tell you the truth.
^^Though he did admit to some of the incidents, just not all. So I am having a hard time figuring out how that is misconduct but not sexual harassment, especially when Bloom has represented many harassment accusers.
Has anyone, anyone at all, defended Weinstein, except Lisa Bloom who was paid to do it?
His wife. She is standing by him. God knows how. He is revolting. Compared to him other guys look like gentlemen.
Not sure if this was meant to be a jab on Trump. Unfortunately, we also have Bill in that department. It’s bipartisanship.
The wife is so beautiful and accomplished in her own right. Though I suspect an arrangement there. Think he bankrolled her company and after that infusion of money the success and high profile followed.
It’s like Bill Cosby all over again.
