has any deferred applicant received a "likely" letter?

has any deferred applicant received a “likely” letter?

really good question…anyone???

I’m not ruling out the possibility, but that would pretty much defeat the purpose of the deferral.

Exactly. If someone were of the caliber to receive a likely letter, they probably would have been accepted early.

^^ exactly…I mean, the whole point of a likely letter is to ensure admission before somebody else gets to grap a hold of applicant x, because she/he is very competitive…essentially, the question you ask is equivalent to “has anyone who has been accepted (early) ever been deferred?”

you don’t have to be condescending about it.
i have a friend whose friend apparently got such a letter.

nobody is being condescending…
and about the “friend of a friend”, i guess the only way that could happen would be if that person really screwed up…something like rescinding admission, only in the form of deferral i presume

I agree with debate_addict… there’s no way that someone who is good enough for a likely letter would have been deferred in the first place. Maybe you misunderstood your friend’s friend?

i agree… based on those that i know who received likely letters… they definitely would have been accepted in the first round

Heh, I got likelys to Yale, Stanford, and Columbia but was deferred from MIT early. I probably wouldn’t have applied to Yale if it weren’t for the MIT deferral. =/

Yale, Stanford, Columbia. My big trinity. Did you have a hook stupidkid?

One of my friends in the US received a likely letter after deferral, but i think his case is special. His SAT score went from a 2030 to a 2380 (december sitting). Also, he didn’t disclose his race when he applied because of personal philosophical reasons, but he is actually african american; so he decided to let Yale know about that after he got deferred (had second thoughts and wanted to make sure if he could get an advantage out of AA, that he would). He got his likely letter sometime in February.
