Has anyone bought a used Class C motorhome?

I’ve been considering a tow vehicle and travel trailer for retirement. My rationale has been that when you get to a campsite, you drop the trailer and have the tow vehicle as your primary car. But it’s occurred to me recently that with a motorhome that tows a car, you get terrible gas mileage on the motorhome, but could get excellent mpgs with the towed vehicle. With a tow vehicle and trailer, you get terrible fuel economy while towing, and better but still not very good fuel economy with your everyday vehicle. Does anyone have experience with buying a used Class C? Have you found it reliable? What kind of mpgs does it get?

No experience, gadad, but it’s always been my fantasy to do something like this and See the World. Or, at least, the U.S.

My brother just bought a travel trailer that is a “toy hauler.” It has a compartment in back that carries motor bikes for him and his sweetie to go into town or wherever. I think you can get motor homes with the same feature. H claims he got a great buy–lots of repos on the market these days.

We sold the one we had because we just weren’t using it enough. The gentleman who purchased it called my husband from the Grand Canyon to let him know how much he was enjoying it
I would love to travel this way again. We had a motorhome when our kids were younger and gas was affordable
We drove it down to Key West ( from NJ ) It was one of the best family vacations we ever had
Mostly though we took it to Assateague in Md. , which was our all time favorite place to visit

We own a small Class A Motorhome. In general, we use it to go sight seeing on trips but if we are visiting a city, we will rent a car. Enterprise will pick you up at the RV park. We’ve also found that bicycling is very convenient in fact my husband just picked up a new bike rack and bag that will hold a large paper grocery bag. When we travel, I plot out the trip so that we stop at the attractions/national parks/historic sites along the way. We even use it to visit the kids at college and we are not worrying about hotels for son’s graduation since we know the campgrounds won’t be busy at that time of year.
MPG: about 10. (In laws have a C and get 12-15 mpg)
