Has anyone changed their major into something completely different?

I’m currently a Poltical Science major and a first semester Freshman. I have always been very interested in geophysics and I’m starting to lose interest in Poli Sci. Is this normal? Has anybody completely changed their majors into something totally different?

Change of majors is very common. I have heard of university seniors asking very similar questions. For a chance this significant, it is much better to do it freshman year compared to later in your university career.

It is very common to change majors. However, if you absolutely must graduate in four years, make sure you can still meet requirements if you jump around trying majors out.

^ id be very surprised if this were an issue for a freshman changing majors, unless it is a very specialized program, which does not appear to be the case here

I’d suspect many premed/bio majors are looking at changing majors before the end of first year

I was one of the few people in my circle NOT to change majors, probably because I knew what I was getting into since I was following in my dad’s footsteps (engineering).

My husband dropped out as a senior - he realized as he was doing his student teaching stint that education wasn’t the right profession for him. He wandered around the continent for a few years and then went back to engineering school.

I changed from marine biology to mechanical engineering sophomore year.

Husband went from physics to literature

It is quite common to change majors. At my school, it’s said that most students change majors two or three times! Crazy if that’s true. I went from CS/IT -> Sociology -> Computational Linguistics. One of my friends went from electrical engineering -> history. I thought that was a drastic change :stuck_out_tongue:
