Has anyone contacted the specific dept. @ UVA?

Has anyone been in touch with the dept. to which they are applying? I’m applying to the school of Arts & Sciences and want to major in Political Science. I’m thinking of contacting them to ask a few questions. Is this a good idea?

I have. I did because I was interested, though, not because I thought it would be a “good move”. So, I don’t really understand your second question. If you’re asking whether or not it will increase your chances of being admitted, I’d say not at all–academic departments have no input into admissions decisions, unless you’re talking about art supplements.

Katt, If you have questions you want answered it is fine to call the dept. but as the previous poster said it will have no affect on your chances. If you have general questions about the politics dept post them here and I can try and answer them for you (I’m a american politics/economics double major)

Ok, thanks wahoo! No, I don’t want to contact them in hopes to increase my chances. Just want to know if there’s a Mock Trial team for undergrad students. Also, are there any special clubs I could get involved in for Govt/Politics?

Katt, yes there is a mock trial team for undergrads you can check out their webpage here -> http://www.student.virginia.edu/~mock/</a> as far as other clubs there are the same ones that are at most schools (ie model un, college republicans/dems, libertarians etc.)

Great! Thanks alot wahoo!
