Has anyone created their own major?

I’m considering doing so, in addition to my history major. If I did so, it would be “Middle East & North African Studies,” blending history, religion, Arabic. Does anyone have any advice on the matter?

Not really, but what about those topics makes you so interested?

I’m taking Arabic right now, and last semester took a religion course on “Crusades, Contact, and Exchange in the Medieval Mediterranean.” As a historian, the region fascinates me, and I want to have a focused study on a particular geographical/cultural area.

Plus, it’s a good excuse to go study in the Maghreb.

What about that particular area and why not other areas?

At my college you would be told to take the classes you are interested in as part of or on top of your history major.

I think creating your own major REALLY varies depending on the school. You should make an appt with an advisor.

I didn’t create my own major, but I am literally the first and only person in my major in 10 years

What major is it?

engineering science
