Has anyone done a Road Scholar trip?

They do look good. Tempting. Let us know your experiences.

My uncle and aunt did, and liked it very much.

There are at least two people in our hiking club that have gone on hiking trips with Road Scholar and have given good reports. One (female) went to Mt Rainier. The other (male) went on a Rocky Mountain trip. Neither person knew anyone else on their trip and had a good time as a solo traveler. Both commented that the guides really helped make the trip.

I think I am going to try it next year, would love to hear some feedback. I am not going to do hiking or biking kind of trip.

My In Laws did these trips and loved them. I would make sure that the small group adventures/trips are not booked by mainly one family or travel group.

My cousin went on one of these trips and really liked it–I am not sure which one it was.

We did, 3 week hiking trip in New Zealand. LOVED it, loved the other people on the tour, loved the guides, loved the food, love love loved it.
One guy on the trip had been on 17 or 18 other tours and 7 times on the one week tour near him. He said it was different every time.

We are taking them in Sept. to hike the Inca Trail. Going with a friend that wanted to book a bit cheaper guide/tour and we said nope not worth it to risk bad trip for some fewer $$. We are fairly sure that Road Scholar will be a good one.

note that we had been on just 4 or 5 other group tours through college alumni groups. They are good, too but for New Zealand I felt that Road Scholar took it up a notch.

My parents did two of them and really enjoyed them.

I went on one with my son 5 years ago, when he was about 12 - to Paris - it was fabulous. Knowledgeable tour guides, great programming. My mom had taken my daughter on the same one a few years earlier (she was going to take my son but my dad was ill so I stepped in and went in her place). Cannot say enough great things about Road Scholar. PM me if you have additional questions.

My husband’s cousin and his wife go on them quite frequently. They seem to really enjoy them.

@esobay I’ve also thought about hiking the Inca Trail. I’d love to hear about your experience when you get back. I recently talked with a woman who had just returned from that hike and said it was very difficult.

DD did the 3 day (?) hiking trip and used sherpas on the last bit. Altitude makes it hard to carry your pack.
:-*

My parents used to go on these when it was called Elderhostel, including to New Zealand. If anyone has been on these, do you see very many people in their 50s? Singles?

@tatinG, will do. It isn’t til Sept though. We plan to spend some time at 10,000 ft in the Sierras hiking this summer.

@Barbalot well for the NZ trip we did, of course Road Scholar is ALL over 55, except for the grandparent/grandkid trips. Our NZ (strenuous hiking) had people mostly 55 to 66, although the guide was 72 and out walked everyone. There were lots of singles, 3 guys who paid the single supplement, 1 woman who paid single, and 4 women who got paired up but didn’t know each other before. I think DH and I as a couple were more the anomaly on that trip. It was really good as I said above.
