I always fly Delta. The leg going over the Atlantic is.Virgin? Don’t know if I should just look at another flight with Delta all the way. What are you thoughts if you’ve flown main economy.
I did recently to London. No complaints at all. Flew economy.
D flew Virgin and had good things to say about her experience.
I loved Virgin when it first started. Flew to London on Virgin many times in the 80’s. When it was a new airline, it was filled with musicians. It was funny to be at the baggage carousel and watch all the guitar cases pass you by!
It’s been awhile since I’ve flown Virgin (to Australia and return from New Zealand), but we were happy with the service.
Are you looking for scheduling or Delta frequent flyer? They are good for both - as they are partners.
It’s an established, solid airline. Only went once and they were good. They got me where I was going, were nice, etc. etc. And yes, you get Delta points.
I’ve flown virgin once to London in premium economy and loved it. My daughter did a year abroad in the UK and she much preferred Virgin to any other US airline.
My daughter flew Virgin Atlantic from SFO to Exeter via Amsterdam. It was fine, however, it was a codeshare (is that what it’s called?) with KLM so check in had to be done through the KLM app, which was initially rather confusing since she hadn’t been told that and kept getting error messages from the Virgin Atlantic app when she tried to check in. The flight itself was fine.
Thanks. I keep reading great things about premium and above, but we’re flying main economy.
We flew regular economy on Virgin Atlantic and were fine with it. Granted, it’s been over a decade since those flights, but perhaps at least a little comforting?
I flew 10+ years back so not very relevant now, but it was pretty good. A friend of mine flew about a year or two back and he said it was fine.
I fly fairly frequently and in terms of expectations, this is how I generally view the world’s major airlines (there are exceptions of course)
- US airlines - fairly barebones, very few if any frills. Minimal passenger rights.
- European airlines - a tad better. However, you have much stronger rights and will receive compensation if your flight is cancelled or significantly delayed, etc.
- Asian airlines (like Singapore, Cathay Pacific, JAL, etc) - much higher quality of service and food.
- Middle Eastern airlines (specifically Emirates and Qatar) - top of the line.
Virgin is one of my favorite airlines and if given a choice I pick them. WAY better than any American airline. I flew Virgin to London most recently a year ago.
I used to live in London and flew back to the US a couple of times a year. As I say, I always picked Virgin if there was a choice.
What I have noticed the past few years for any European flights I have booked is that the US airline is not the one in charge they are just partnering with the European airline. This allowed me to get my points etc. on the US airline while actually on a different airline’s flight. I did experiment and found no difference in price if I went directly to KLM, or Air Italia or Virgin etc. vs. booking from United or Delta.
Just thinking now that my daughter’s recent UK trip, although booked on United, was actually Virgin Atlantic. Flight was fine.
And Air Canada - the worst of the worst. Even discount West Jet blows them away - but most travel by price and schedule, and they all eventually (and hopefully) arrive.
This is pretty much what I came to say, almost word for word (including the used to live there part!) Virgin was always my top choice when I was flying a route where it was available. British Airways is my go to now for flying back to the UK but I would still choose Virgin over it if I could.
I have flown it a few times. They seem to have had many classes of seats, with very subtle advantages for slight payment premiums (but that was years ago). I would give them a big thumbs up overall. Reminded me of a jetblue before it started to dip with some international features.
I’ve flown them premium economy and whatever their business class is called. The premium economy was fine, but the business class on this aircraft configuration was awful. The seats were cramped, and positioned diagonally so you were staring right at another person. Worst ever!
But it looked like the economy section was acceptable.
MANY times. They are professional, on time, friendly. Their planes are looking very 90’s these days. I personally don’t like their seats, but I am super fussy.
Edit: They code share with Delta. I actually prefer to buy my ticket on Virgin because I get the airmiles for my economy ticket and Delta doesn’t give airmiles if you buy a regular economy ticket. You have to pay extra. So I get miles for the same price.
