Has anyone heard of Miami Ad School

I am currently thinking of applying for MAS in NYC as an art direction to build my portfolios and be able to get into advertising industry after graduate. Has anyone heard of this school? Is it worth going? Thanks a lot!

I’ve never heard of it. SVA is similar tuition-wise and probably way more renown in the advertising industry, so I suggest you look into that a bit more into that before deciding

sva only has a ba degree in ad which is 4 years. MAS offer a program which can be finished in two years.

oh, i didn’t realize you were looking fora two year program. It’s fine if you want to keep it in consideration, but I think there are other alternatives for that price. (If it were cheaper I’d back it up, but it’s around the same price as prominent art schools).

yeh, but I don’t see much options for a two-year advertising program here. And the school director says they have many connections with the professionals and agencies in advertising which is what I am looking for. I just want to find a school which offers great career oppurtunities after graduting. I just want to know if anyone knows what the director said is true. Whether this school has many connections and good reputations with the ad agencies here.

I’m sorry, I don’t know much about the school so I can’t be of much help. ><
It’s good that you’re researching though, faculty may sometimes say anything for you to attend their school. Then again, if it’s in new york I’m sure it would have at least a decent amount of connections in the industry.
Good luck!

I think it’s a good option if you can afford it. Having a “book” (portfolio) is the most important thing in applying for agency creative jobs. People in the industry will have heard of it. You should also do what you can to get whatever agency internships are possible, even if they’re unpaid.

Or is there any other options with lower price in the nyc?

Anyone else has heard of this school and its advertisig program?

Does anyone know if it is very hard to get into advertising industry nowadays?

Hi Noodlesli, I’m a student at College For Creative Studies studying Art Direction, so I am very familiar with Miami Ad School. They have a 2 year program which is designed for students after they already have a degree. The way the school works, you should have a book ready, be prepared to present, and get a job after completion. It’s a decent 2 year program. You may want to also look into the Creative Circus, or a 4 year portfolio school. If you already have a degree, you can always just complete the classes for the major you’re interested in, and some classes may transfer.

I also recommend you read the book Breaking In book. It will tell you about the industry and how to build a portfolio that will get you hired.

The advertising industry is still challenging to get into now,but it depends what you want to do. Creative or account, art direction or copywriting. It is possible to build a portfolio non traditionally, without going to a portfolio school, but it is very difficult, and a lot of it depends on your background.

Reach out to the agencies and see if you can find other art directors you can talk to via LinkedIn or even HR managers. A lot of them are friendly and want to help new creatives. In Detroit we have a ton of agencies, and I’ve received nothing but helpful advise from them.

Good luck, and feel free to message me if you have any questions.

I work for a top tier global ad agency…the ad program at VCU is another big feeder for our creative department.
