Has anyone here applied for or received a scholarship at Southern Cross University? I’m particularly interested in understanding how competitive they are for international students and what actually improves your chances beyond the basic academic requirem

Hi everyone,

I’ve been doing some research on studying in Australia and I recently came across scholarships offered by Southern Cross University. I’m seriously considering applying, but I’m still trying to understand how the scholarship process really works beyond what’s written on the official website

From what I’ve seen, the requirements look fairly straightforward on paper (good grades, supporting documents, etc.), but I’m wondering how competitive it actually is in real life, especially for international students. Does anyone here have firsthand experience applying or receiving any kind of scholarship from Southern Cross University? I’d really like to know things like:

How strong does your academic profile need to be to stand a real chance

Are there hidden factors they consider that are not clearly stated (like leadership, personal statement, extracurriculars, etc.)?

How long does the decision process usually take after applying?

Did anyone get partial funding vs full scholarship, and how was that decided

And honestly, how realistic is it for an average international applicant to get something substantial?

Also, if you were successful, I’d love to hear what you think made your application stand out. Sometimes the official guidelines don’t really reflect what actually matters in the selection process, so real experiences would be very helpful.

Even if you were rejected, your insight would still be valuable—what do you think you were missing or could have done differently?

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to share. It would really help me (and others in the same situation) understand the process better before applying.

Australian here.

Southern Cross is a decent school, but I would personally go to my old school, the QUT.

For gaining admission, the best way for international students is to do a few subjects at OUA:

Contact the school you want to go to to find out how many subjects to take at OUA and what’s needed for a scholarship.

Thanks
