Has anyone just ditched the Christmas Tree?

Here’s a video (not the one I saw which is much more detailed and goes on about framing practices) about it (in Europe the most popular tree is the Nordmann Fir)

Christmas tree up!

That’s about all I’m willing to do, but DH would have to hang the ornament.

I have a fabric screen printed Xmas tree from Ikea years ago. I sewed battery operated lights on it, and attached all my favorite small ornaments, and sewed the top so it can hang on a curtain rod. Everything else was donated.

Oh I get that. I spent a couple hours on the tree with no help. When it came to putting on the pretty ribbon, the final fun touch, he asked if I needed help. It really irritated me. I just said no with an annoyed looke on my face.

We are on a later schedule than others. Until this afternoon, we had made space by the window for the tree, but it was still in the box.

The tree (and integrated lights) are now up, ready for decorations. Next I’ll decorate the banister and put around some of the decorative things gifted by a doting great aunt. I have a small hope that the kid who recently bought a house will want something from the collection.

(Also I have 2 more ornament boxes inn the crawl space. There are 3, with the theory that I’d send off one with each grown kid with their favorite ornaments. Over time I’ve consolidated the best of them into #1 box.)

I was hoping to ditch the tree this year since we’re going to D and SIL’s on Christmas (we’ve traditionally hosted). But H insisted on another live tree. So I insisted we get a new tree stand and OMG – it made putting the tree up so easy and we avoided our annual yelling match trying to get the tree up and (kinda) straight. Best purchase of the year. :grinning:

Since we are the only ones who will be here Christmas Day, I suggested we not put up a tree. DH says he will put up the beautiful fake tree tomorrow. Of course, he won’t decorate it…but it will be up.

I’m going very light on the decorations. Dining room table, fireplace mantle in the family room, placemats in the kitchen, and a few other things placed around.

Oh…and my ceramic Christmas tree…which I actually really like. Really…that would be plenty of tree for me! It does have a star on top now!!

I have a ceramic tree that looks very similar to that.

For the first time in a few years, I put up the tree.

I was having a detente with the husband because I wanted a new tree and he thought the one I bought at a garage sale was fine.

I relented and put it up, it’s pre lit but the lights don’t work anymore. So I put colored and clear lights on it. And decorated of course.

So far it’s bringing me joy and that’s the point.

These ceramic trees are such a hot item right now. FB Marketplace has vintage ones that are :scream: in price! I bought my daughter a newer but similar style at a consignment home store - got lucky cause it had just come in and hadn’t hit the sales floor yet

Since becoming an empty nester, I have been covertly downsizing on the tree size, the amount of ornaments I put out and the decorations around the house. I sent a pic of this year’s tree to my college kid and her response was, “Wow, you found a skinny one this year!” and “It only looks half-decorated.” So much for my covert ops :joy:

Wow - you are right. One like I have (with paint chips and all) sold for $250 on eBay.
I may have to dig ours out of the garage and put it up for the few days we are home around Christmas. (I usually put it in the bay window of our dining room where we eat Christmas dinner.

It’s such an easy piece of decor! Just set it someplace you can view it and plug it in! Perfect for a “light” Christmas decor year!

My grandmother made everyone in the family one of those and I’m pretty sure none of us own them anymore. To be fair, she made us a lot of ceramic gifts!

We have the one that my MIL made long before I was around. I’d guess it’s 40 years old. I don’t set it out every Xmas, but maybe I’ll get a pic of it eventually. It’s pretty big - maybe 24" tall?

Would be fun to see these mini ceramic trees!

I was talking in a group about Christmas trees and one lady pipes up “My husband would be happy if I did only one tree”. How many do you have? “Eight!”

Some people get joy in decorating a lot of trees! (I am not that person :grinning:)

We have scaled back the decorating, but we have So. Many. Ornaments.
MIL loved to shop so she bought us not one or two, but usually 5-6 ornaments each year (not counting the ones for the kids). It wasn’t too bad the first few years but this went on for decades (do the math!). Most of the ornaments just sit in boxes now and never make it onto the tree.

We have a real tree, 7-8 ft in our living room. But I have to admit one of my favorite “trees” - a tree shape with lights - is this grapevine cone tree that is probably 3.5 ft tall and is in our loft family room - I love it every evening!

Really for me what makes me happy is glowy lights - I have them in several spots inside.
