Has anyone just ditched the Christmas Tree?

I too have a non-tree tree! It has blinking red, green, and warm white LEDs. I bought it one year when Mr. wanted to cancel our Christmas trip because his big boss announced at the last minute that there would be some very important meeting (that was waaay pre-Zoom)! I got pissed and went on vacation by myself. Bought this “tree” at the airport to decorate the hotel room. Mr. figured out that he could still join me for a couple of days and bought a new ticket. The “tree” reminds us of holiday priorities. Funny I captured the red lights off in the picture!

I don’t know what you got, but I think this was the best thing we ever bought. Worth every single penny!

OMG that’s amazing and look at those reviews! We still have a stupid metal one that you have to manually screw in each of 4 screws while laying underneath the tree - it’s not pretty! Plus ours is kind of on the big side so my tree collar doesn’t close quite right!

I do really like a collar over a skirt now.

We got a Krinner stand as well LOL! We got the medium size Krinner stand as I did convince H to scale down the size of the tree a bit (and I like that it “dings” when the tree is firmy in place).

I strongly considered ditching the tree this year. But I finally told DH to go ahead and bring it out. It took me many hours to fluff up the squished branches, get out all the ornaments, and decorate it. Depending on if our girls are in town next Christmas, I may finally elect to omit that part of the decorating.

A part of me would love to ditch the tree. I don’t mind decorating it, but my husband insists that we get a $10 permit to cut down a tree in the mountains. So now we have a lovely 14 ft Noble Fir, but yesterday it was an hours long difficult slog pulling this big tree down the trails, and there was ice on the road, so we went sideways a few times (in a 4WD truck) and it was scary. This is never fun. I always remember that, and he always forgets.

It’s amazing. Hold it in place, three cranks with your foot, done! Bonus for the water level gauge.

We also rig up a self watering system based on this. Easy enough use a gallon container and some tubing inside a wrapped box.

I don’t think I ever noticed that!

Wow—never knew the lengths people go through to get a tree and the amazing stands people have. We have a very sturdy one that is from H’s family. It’s like cast aluminum and very heavy. It is 3 legged and very sturdy and skewers the base of the trunk from 3 sides so the tree doesn’t wobble. We stopped using it once we stopped having live trees. It’s in the cupboard, but I am not sure either of the kids will tolerate live trees with their allergies. My DIL loves Christmas and trees and ornaments.

The “ding” feature is on the medium stand but not the large one…no idea why.

Have to admit I went out this morning and bought one of those Krinner stands. While my almost 50 year old LL Bean cast iron stand still works fine, the thought of not army-crawling around on the floor under the tree trying to tighten bolts and hold the tree at the same time was just too alluring.

We got something like that from LLBean factory store many years ago. It is a game-changer for sure.

We almost did last year because of this troublemaker

Some may have heard this story before, but it was so sweet.
My son and DIL have a mostly husky dog. The first year they had the dog we took her with us to get a tree, and there was this little boy (maybe 5-6), dressed in an adorable outfit. As we went by he said “LOOK, it’s a husky!!!” In a voice that would have made you think it was Santa he just saw. Since then it’s become an outing to take the dog (and the “kids”) to get a live tree, and pay quite a bit for said tree.
This year we will be gone for 2 weeks in December, so we bought a 3.5 ft. Fake tree from Balsam Hill. It’s a great little tree, but said kids won’t even acknowledge it’s a tree :). These same kids have a very inexpensive fake tree in their house - clearly it’s our job to get the good tree.

I think we’ve had a thread on cats in trees at some point, and it may have included our 15 pounder hiding in the tree.

At 15 pounds, I imagine the kitty is pretty conspicuous :joy:

No! Don’t take away his joy! Adorable

That is a gorgeous cat. And looks completely innocent of any and all pending charges.

Hope you enjoy the new stand!

Thanks! And thank you for posting about it, it never crossed my mind that there was a better way out there!
