Has anyone not been admitted to OSU?

Just wondering is anyone has received notification that they are not being admitted to OSU, and if so, did they post it directly on the OSU application status page, or did they send a letter in the mail.

I'm still waiting for my D's admission decision. Applied Oct. 20, application completed Nov. 14th, and still in the evaluation stage. I spoke with someone at the college and they seem to think she didn't make the first cut, but is application is possibly in another pile to be re-evaluated. If this is the case, why doesn't her status say deferred? This is really mind boggling to me that it takes this long to find out if you have been admitted or rejected.

Really would like to hear from someone that wasn't lucky enough to get in and how they found out.

Thanks for asking this question. We are in the same boat. My D applied on October 24 and went into evaluation on November 15. It's hard to wait especially when you hear others applied much later and have already been accepted or deferred. Can you tell me your D's stats? I'm curious if they are similar to my D's.

26 ACT, 3.9 GPA, Honors Classes, AP class, Post secondary classes, Captain on kick and dance team,etc..., lots of EC activities, works, wants to go into bio-medical engineering. One of her friends found out she was accepted 12-24 for the college of engineering. She only had a 24 on her ACT and her grade point average was about the same as my D's. Not as many activities in school either. Don't know why she got in before my D? Really aggravating having to wait and make up reasons in your mind as to why we haven't heard anything yet!

Would LOVE to hear from someone that wasn't admitted to OSU. Not that it's a good thing, but maybe someone could shed some light as to how they notify you if you haven't been accepted.

My daughter has similar stats - 27 ACT and 3.7 GPA with lots of ECs and 4 AP courses. It does say 10-12 weeks wait on their admission site so we will keep waiting patiently. I feel like if she was deferred or rejected we would've already found out. Good luck!

I don't know if this will help but it is off their website and sometimes no news is good news: (I think you just need to keep checking the website and then will also get a letter):

Once we receive your application
Within 1 to 5 days, you will receive e-mail acknowledgment that your application was received. You will be given an Ohio State Username and OSU ID and instructions for monitoring the status of your application.

Within approximately 10 to 12 weeks (and not before December for those applying to begin in autumn semester), your online application status will reflect one of the following admissions decisions:

Admit – Congratulations! You have been admitted to Ohio State. A notice about enrollment requirements and information about specific college enrollment are on the way.

Defer – After an initial review of your application, we have not yet made a final admissions decision. Following the application deadline, deferred applications will be reviewed a second time, giving particular consideration to academic performance, the competitiveness of the applicant pool, and the number of spaces available.

Options for Ohio Residents – At this time, you do not meet admission requirements for the Columbus campus. As an Ohio resident, your options are to enroll at one of Ohio State’s regional campuses or to apply again later as a transfer student from another college or university.

Denial for Nonresidents – At this time, you do not meet our admission requirements. You may wish to improve your academic profile at another college or university, then apply again as a transfer student.

I got denied last year, but I'm a student in OSU-Columbus now because of an early transfer from a branch campus. I did NOT receive a letter about being denied (had to check application status) but I did receive a letter saying I was accepted to a branch, so maybe out-of-staters get the letter saying they're denied.

To all OSU Hopefuls,

I have heard that some of the timing of decisions depends on what program your child has applied to. My son from Northern Virginia (not a complete carpet bagger as I am from Ohio, and he has seen the campus numerous times and loves it) applied to the OSU physics program around Thanksgiving and has not yet heard. He has SAT scores of 2130 and a weighted GPA over 4.6 with loads of honors and AP classes (and four 5's on AP tests, including Calculus b/c). So, I would not read too much into the time OSU has evaluated the applications. I think there is a lot of variance.

Hopein and CaliMom, don't lose hope...my S was admitted last night after waiting since 9/24 for a decision!! :)
We are OOS, business major with 1200 and 3.7W (through jr. yr), 14 ap/honors classes, great ECs (class pres, state debate qualifier, JHCTY, sports, volunteer hours, job etc). He did proactively send email to adcom and Q1 sr. grades (maybe that helped show interest, all A's 1 B+ with APs/Honors may have also provided proof of continued upward trend in rigorous classes?).
Good Luck!!

That is wonderful news Nova88! I guess there is still hope! I was going to have my D's highschool transcripts sent in again also. When you sent the transcripts in again, did you have to show their OSU ID# on them? I'm just wondering how they match them up again with their application.

Hopein4OSU...we just had the HS counselor send the transcript after Q1 grades were final (first week in Dec), however I don't think S provided them with the OSU # to place in the mailing (you should do that though for your D, minimizes chances of them losing or misplacing). S did email his OSU admissions counselor to advise him exactly when the transcript was sent from his HS, you may want to do that as well. Good Luck!!

Just found out about 30 minutes ago that my D was admitted! Couldn't be more happy for her!

Congrats! Hopefully we will hear in the next couple of days.

Hopein4OSU

Congrats to your D!! :)

CaliMom, good luck, hope you hear good news very soon.

My son was admitted two days ago. The admissions seem to be picking up. Good luck calmom.

Couldn't believe my friend's dgt was accepted to main campus. She has absolutely no ec's. She has been in no clubs, sports, etc. She has volunteered only slightly with her church group. Her GPA is around 3.4 - 3.5. She may have taken one AP class, she was going to take another but dropped it because it was too much work. She has a great ACT which I think must be the reason she go in, it is a 31. She hangs around with friends and watches tv or plays on the computer. I was just really surprised that she wasn't sent to a regional campus.

Yeah the 31 ACT says it all...I have never seen anyone rejected from OSU main campus if they have a 30 ACT or above, no matter what their profile is.

I just got admitted today with a 31 ACT and a 3.3 gpa at a competitive hs. I had nice ecs and 8 APs however

I know this does not really pertain to the topic but how do you see the status of your application? I applied as a transfer, received the ID for my.osu.edu but I'm a bit confused as to where to go to see my status.

Sorry soccer, my son with a 30 act was sent to Newark...so the test score is not the kicker!

wow, that is the first I have ever heard about that, sorry to hear that ddd928 :/
