Wondering if this is worthwhile. I was told you had to be at the theater at least 30 minutes in advance. Do people paying full price have priority? Just curious what the disadvantages would be. Does anyone have this?
I’ve never heard of it but it sounds intriguing.
I read about it on Tues and told my siblings and daughter who were all over it. I couldn’t figure out how to do it and it almost seemed like you paid every time and then were reimbursed by the pass people? It said you had to have a debit card.

You pay $10 a month to get MoviePass. You are sent a debit card. You can see one movie a day. When you want select what movie and what showing, the debit card is loaded with the price of a ticket. When you go to the theater, you swipe your card and the ticket is purchased.
In addition:
I don’t really understand who is paying for the ticket. But apparently not the person who pays $10 a month!
This seems to be a fantastic gift for the younger set who like to go to movies three times a week!!
Here’s the economic logic behind it:

So I can pay 10/mo, maybe go, maybe not, maybe more than once. But I still wait in line, swipe, et al? In return, my consumer behavior is tracked? Count me out.
Frankly, I think it sounds awesome.
I thought it sounded pretty good when it was $30/mo for my kids, who go all the time. For me, it would do what it is intended to do, get me to go to the movies more than 3 times per year.
I saw that you need a smartphone to load the app. So what about young children who don’t have smartphones?
Don’t think the point is to track children.
You can get a pay as you go tracfone for kids. (smartphone) I think it is good for summer break or a month of winter break.
They are non-transferable for individuals and must be at least 18. No couples or family membership currently.
It sounds like an amazing price. I think they’re having a lot of trouble filling seats in our state and maybe yours too. We tend to get to the theater more than 30 minutes ahead of time and as long as we see 2 movies in a month, we’d come out ahead in $$$.
I dislike the idea of being tracked tho, so will ponder it. I tend to see many movies in flight, but this is a way to see new movies.
H and I may give it a try. All the theaters we go to within a 1/2 hour drive participate. Someone created an app where you can enter zip code to see whether your theater participates before you buy the moviepass.
How can I see the locations where it is accepted without registering?
Well, H has vetoed anything that has auto-pay, so we aren’t even going to seriously consider this. We also see a TON of movies already when we fly and haven’t even tapped the many AmazonPrime shows we are entitled to, so no point in trying to increase the movies we see.

I see our local heater participates. Husband and I used to go to movies almost every week before son was born. We just dropped him off at college four days ago, so I am definitely looking for something to do.
Two things though…Neither of us have a smart phone. Also, the good seats at our theater are sold way before 30 min before show time. It’s an all seats reserved theater. I don’t see how that would work, not being able to reserve your seats until you go to the theater.
If you sign up for it, you would get marketing information on various products, supposedly they would track and analyze your preference by the kind of movies you watch then send you advertisement (junk emails) for products they think you may like. I haven’t read the terms and agreement, but I am pretty certain it means they could sell your email to other companies. I was going to send the link to D2 because she loves movies, but I don’t think it is worth it.
