A couple of people at the senior center today told me about Hemp Oil which I have never heard of. They take it to reduce inflammation and pain, apparently it is very expensive.
I just did a quick google, prices are all over the place and looks like there are many kinds out there!!! Maybe different strengths/ingredients?
Just curious if anyone on this board has used or currently using it. Does it work? Can you share your experience?

If you’re in a medical marijuana state try cbd products.
Palmetto Harmony is a reputable company should you decide to try it. They have an oil you take by mouth and a topical cream for pain. Some people swear by it but I think YMMV.
My doctor gave me an official “pass” or whatever it is to use our state’s medical marijuana system. He suggested that I might try CBD salve for the chemo-induced neuropathy in my fingertips. I haven’t looked into it yet. Some people in the cancer support forum I frequent have reported good results from CBD used in various ways: internally, externally.
I have used, and am a fan of the products (CBD) by Papa and Barkley. They are high quality and solvent free (important for the extraction of the CBD).
Depending on your state, you may be able to buy CBD oil legally without any sort of medical pass or license. Look for products that are tested by an independent lab. I know quite a few people who feel they it really helps them. Both of my SILs have RA & find that CBD oil helps manage their pain.
I use hemp salve on sore muscles. My 89 yr. old mom does, too, and swears by it. She also vapes hemp oil!
I give my dog CBD oil to help alleviate his arthritis. It makes a big difference for him. There is a different blend that helps with anxiety, but that was not needed by my couch potato. I give him human grade CBD oil, because there is more of a guarantee as to the quality of the product.
Anybody have experience with a particular (oral) dosage for relieving pain from inflammation? Pain iis too deep seated for topical I think.
Also, my understanding is that you don’t have to be in a medical marijuana state to use CBD…I know you can order it online with no problem.
CBD products do not contain THC, which is the psychoactive component of marijuana. I believe you can buy CBD products in every state. Because it’s largely unregulated, you will need to experiment to find a dose that works for you, and it may not work at all. I haven’t found it any better than Advil for relieving my bursitis pain.
My mother uses marijuana creams. Both medical and non-medical are legal here, but my father was still her ‘dealer’ as his friend sells it cheaper.
CBD from the marijuana plant is still technically illegal. The stuff you see “advertised” is from hemp. The marijuana version is high octane. The hemp version doesn’t contain enough cbd to make it that effective. The significant other has tried both, and the marijuana version helps. The hemp did not. Good luck.
My friends from Colorado swear by the marijuana cream and have brought a lot of it back to Tennessee. I tried it for a running injury (hamstring tendinitis) and I thought it helped. It does have the THC.
I’ve been using a marijuana cream at night for pain in knee from a torn meniscus. I was a skeptic but it helps enough with the pain that I sleep better. What I use does have THC. It’s legal in my state.
^ @MomofWildChild question about transporting CbD/ and THC product out of Colorado? My brother in law and sister in law ( Fort Collins residents) were adamant that we couldn’t bring some CbD cream back to nJ - illegal to transport out of state ? Just curious if that is true,
They were very enthused about CbD Salve, and CbD / THC salves for muscular issues. We visited a shop and very pricey -$40 for small 2 inch round container.
I had bike fall and bruising and they quickly got some of it, I used it, and don’t know if that helped but My arm certainly looked horrible with bruising but not painful. Maybe Advil helped more ???
I was shocked that conservative in laws, were so supportive of these products.
It is illegal to transport and I would never risk it. My friends are an older couple and drive with a packed SUV and seem to feel ok with the risk. The cream is probably not detectable by drug dogs, but I would be afraid to fly it:
@SouthJerseyChessMom , I am very conservative, as were my parents. I am all for anything medicinal. It’s ridiculous all of this is not legal.
In South America, we used to use Coca leaf tea all the time for upset stomachs. It works wonderfully. The first time my DH went there decades ago, my cousins got him unbelievably drink! He had such a hangover, it was bad. The only thing he could keep down and started helping him mend was Coca Tea.
Thanks everyone for all the info. The products I’m talking about are those containing CBD with 0% THC. I think it’s a new, lightly regulated industry without general agreement on definitions and terminology which leads to a lot of confusion. And even in states where marijuana is explicitly legal, the conflicting federal laws are still in place. But the DEA has said as recently as 2017 they are not going after folks who benefit from CBD oil.
CBD oil contains 0% THC (this is different from the marijuana creams they have in Colorado), so it is legal. However, because it is unregulated, there are CBD oil products that are less effective than others. This is why it’s good to choose a product that has been third-party tested.
