Has USC become more selective than Berkeley & UCLA?

The average SATs for incoming freshmen at USC are certainly going to be higher this year!

My friend was rejected from Berkeley but accepted to USC!

Having said that, my other friend was rejected form Berkeley but accepted to Stanford…

USC is definitely more selective than Berkeley and UCLA. i know ppl who got into UCLA who have worse stats than me and my best friend got into Berkeley and didn’t get into USC. USC is crazy now!

USC: 29.9% acceptance rate (2003 freshman class)
http://afaweb.esd.usc.edu/USC-AFA/upload_images/ACF5F.pdf</a></p>

UC Berkeley: 23.9% acceptance rate
<a href=“Admissions | University of California”>Admissions | University of California;

UCLA: 23.5% acceptance rate
<a href=“Admissions | University of California”>Admissions | University of California;

So in terms of selectivity

 1. UCLA
 2. UC Berkeley
 3. USC

acceptance rates arent everything
quality of applicants is hard to judge
but i think berkeley is the most selective depending on what type of applicant you are

I think it is very tough to get into Berkeley (and UCLA), but for different reasons than for regular private schools. With UCB, UC-weighted gpa is everything, ditto for class rank. You have to have stellar grades, with ap’s/honors. SAT I matters less so. For USC you can get in with much lower grades, and the SAT I is counted more or will offset grades where they won’t at UC. Berkley and UCLA are much harder to get into imo. Also, people who don’t meet the UC guidelines don’t apply, where they do apply to USC. So the UC’s don’t get as many applicants as they would if they didn’t have eligibility requirements.

No, it is not more selective than Berkeley or UCLA.

No, you are crazy for even considering it.

USC is just weird its overrated

dood, you don’t realize dat USC’s prestiege is going up pretty fast. Besides, I got into USC, UCB, and UCLA and our family has become divided because I want to got to USC, but my dad wants me to go to UCLA because of its closeness to our house and the $$.

haha wait - UCLA is close, but USC isn’t? Dude, they’re like 15 miles apart.

going up? USC is already prestigious, but it still laggs a tad bit behind UCLA and Berkeley. and USC is like 12 miles away from UCLA…how is it that much closer to your house?

i got into USC, UCLA, and berkeley

a friend got into USC, UC berkeley, and not UCLA she has 1200s SATs and good grades

I have worse grades than her but my sats are in 1500s

I got the following information from the College Board website, which tracks test scores and sends them to the school of your choice.

USC SAT- Verbal 610-700, Math 640-720, ACT- 27-31

UC Berkeley SAT- Verbal 570-700, Math 620-740, ACT None

UCLA SAT- Verbal 550-670, Math 590-720, ACT 22-29

2004 admit rates

USC: 26%

UC Berkeley: 24%

UCLA: 24%

Wow you’re dumb. SAT scores are not the only factors that determine selectiveness. You yourself posted the admit rates, buddy. You’re proving your own point wrong.

how the heck did someone get into SC with their SAT score in the 1200’s and good grades. What else did they offer 'cause that’s not even close to the average.

A friend of mine got into berkeley with a 1090 SAT score, subpar SAt IIs, and I can’t think of anything special about him that he could have used to get in. He got rejected from UCLA and i think Irvine but somehow got in to Berkeley. Shows you that the admissions process can be quite random.

I didn’t say SAT scores was the only determinate for college selectiveness; it is one of the most factors along with Grade point average. But, by no means is it or should be the sole factor of who should get in or not. By looking at the above statistics, clearly USC is more selective in terms of SAT scores than UCLA and UC Berkeley.

Moreover, this year USC will have a lower admit rate than both UC Berkeley and UCLA.

Already, UCLA posted a 27% admit rate. USC will easily be lower this year. I don’t know yet about Berkeley’s stats, but I’m wiling to bet that it will be higher than last year’s mark of 24%.

from princeton review, since college board is outdated

Well, what matters is that UCLA and UCB are better schools than USC, IMO. They’re also a lot cheaper. hey uscken, where did UCLA post their admit rate?

princetonreview and collegeboard are always a bit outdated. your most accurate bet is STRAIGHT FROM THE SOURCE. look up ^ at post #4 to find links straight from the horse’s mouth…
