Hash Bash 2006

Anyone have a 1st hand report on the 2006 Hash Bash? The Michigan Daily makes it sound like it was not much of an event - not enough M students and too many high schoolers.

Gosh, it’s getting worse every year.

In the Ann Arbor News there was an article about it. There were 1500 people in 2004, about 900 last year, and it dropped to 750 this year. It was basically people smoking tobacco and not weed, although two people were arrested for possession of marijuana and alcohol. It said that as many as 10,000 people attended in the 70’s.

In the early 70s, the entire Diag would be jammed. I don’t know about 10,000, but there were a lot of people in attendance. If it was a nice, warm day, the crowd would be rockin’.

WHAT i haven’t heard about this

i have heard about this ridiculous bar in ann arbor that has 1357130531 types of beer.

man, i was counting out michigan in favor of uva but now michigan might be sort of making a comeback hahaha

I was there and it wasn’t too impressive. Enough people to fill the actual diag brickish area in front of the grad library but not much more. The speakers were pretty funny, and yes there were quite a few high schoolers, but it was also a pretty crappy day. The crowd was still quite energetic though.

What a bad tradition for a University town to have.

It started as a “legalize marajuana” protest years ago - but it’s evolved into a generally creepy event that attracts mainly non-students. Lots of scruffy looking old hippies. I was walking around downtown on Saturday - and 1. there were way more than the usual number of tobacco smokers 2. definitely the smell of marajuana. I predict Hash Bash will fade away.

I think it’s an awesome tradition for a university has. It symbolizes liberal thinking and the fact that the university is at the forefront of social change. But yeah, the whole campus smelled like pot for a day.

Whoa… Can somebody explain to me what hash bash is?

a ton of people come around to smoke pot on campus. that’s it basically.

I disagree.

Lol Umich Here I Come

It’s not about people smoking pot. It’s still a huge rally to legalize marijuana but it happens to be accompanied by lots of weed smoking. Wonder why…
