HASS concentration

Which HASS concentrations are you guys thinking of? Current students, which one are you doing? Do you recommend doing a concentration in something that you’re interested in or something more practical to your career?

I’m thinking History. I’m really not sure though…

German, which I hope to turn into a minor or possibly a second degree.

i suggest something you’re interested in, but i’m the sort that would gouge my eyes out if i took 14.01. i’m leaning towards asian studies, tho it feels a bit of a copout; i might do anthro instead.

lol goddess. Speaking of which, I am doing the Economics concentration :D

im thinkin history or econ…

is 14.01 hard? I heard it was easy one semester and hard another.

yeah how hard are 14.01 and 14.02 if you don’t know a single thing about economics?

y’know, this is like the third time in recent memory that people have started comments “lol goddess”…am i really that bloody hilarious?

from what i can tell, 14.01/2 don’t require you to have prior knowledge of econ. i hear they’re in the process of beefing up one or both of them, can’t really recall tho.

I agree with the 14.01 eye-gouging.

I’m concentrating in anthropology… originally intended to concentrate in Spanish, but switched due to scheduling conflicts. I would highly suggest concentrating in something that interests you (although if you are excited about your future career, which you should be, you should also be interested in classes relevant to said future career…)

If anyone’s interested, approved fields of concentration can be found here: http://web.mit.edu/shass/undergraduate/hass_concentration.shtml#ApprovedFieldsofConcentration

I remember talking to people at the Comparative Media Studies booth at CPW, and that sounded like a really interesting (if less “legit”) concentration. or minor. or whatever you could want it to be.

lol goddess. In all seriousness, it was just funny that the concentration you hate is the one I am taking. I do agree that 14.01 is much tougher than 14.02 depending on the semester you take it. I took both in the Fall, and while 14.02 was a cakewalk, 14.01 was pretty difficult.

i did a linguistics concentration and really liked it. i am the type of person who usually skips all my lectures and just prints out the lecture notes online, but i actually went to almost 100% of my linguistics lectures because they were interesting and often pretty entertaining.

cms is a really nifty idea/department/field/minor/major/concentration, and i swear, i’m not just saying that b/c my housemaster founded the program here. grin

and i guess i did laugh at my lab partner this morning who was whining about how much she hates physics (i love it when engineers try to claim that what they’re doing isn’t physics), so oh well. to each their own, obviously.
