Hate my school--transfer or no?

I absolutely hate my school. I have two semesters left at a second-tier/almost bottom ranked liberal arts college that has done nothing for me but (financially) suck me dry. I have done internships, worked jobs and have volunteered, and I feel like I still have no employment prospects after graduation.

My adviser has told me it’s a terrible idea to transfer now, and that it is worthwhile to just graduate on time with a B.A. Does any employer actually care about a degree from a no-name school with almost no successful alumni? Would it be worthwhile to transfer to an equally mediocre public school just to have a decent alumni network? Just thinking about how I have spent thousands of dollars earning a degree from a bottom-tier school nobody cares about (and everyone looks down upon me for attending) makes me nauseous.

The name of the school doesn’t really matter unless you go to graduate school, and even then, it might not matter much. You’re right, though, in saying alumni networks can really set you up. However, if you transfer you’ll have to spend at least two years at the new university to graduate. If paying for that extra year (I don’t know how much the new university will cost) is worth it to you to have more prospects then go for it. However, it’s far from a guarantee that it’ll pay-off.

What’s your degree in and what kind of job are you looking for? Job prospects out of college are pretty poor for a lot of people right now- even those with strong alumni networks. Lots of students are moving back home with their parents after graduating…
