Have a ruined my chance?

I am a current freshman and I just quit band on high school, I feel like I have no passion for it anymore, or if I ever did. I have decided to join the academic decathlon/octathlon club in my school, although it’s not very well known, but we do decent in competitions. I have heard from several people that high school band can really help you in college admission, and I font know if I’ve made the right choice, college wise. I want to go to a good college like UT at Austin, or if I’m lucky Rice, or Duke. But I feel like I’ve ruined my chances by quitting band, and I want to know have I? And also does AcDec look good in college applications, because I do plan on doing it all four years if I really like it, but there’s not a lot of us, will that hurt me college wise?

As long as you pick something and show some passion you will be fine. Colleges don’t particularly care whether it’s band or basketball or the decathlon as long as you show dedication. With that said, you have years before you need to worry about anything college related. Keep your grades up and keep active and the rest will work out.

I do not think band is that important. You should worry more about important things such as: your act, sat, GPA, AP/BI test and grammar " have a ruined my chances".

As a fellow decathlete, I wish you all the best. I don’t think quitting band would hurt you. You had a change of heart, and that’s fine.

I was typing very fast, sorry for my grammar. I tend to do that when I’m worried about something, like my school. And yes I get your point, why do something your not interested in.
