Have any of you ever ran for political office?

It seems there are many bright parents here on CC and was wondering if any of you had ever contemplated or actually had ran for political office, at any level.

If so, why did you do it and what were your experiences? And if you haven’t, what’s holding you back given that it’s obvious many of you have compelling opinions?

I can’t remember anyone’s name, which I think is a prime virtue in politicians.

Running the PTA was bad enough.

I agree. I was “chair” of the PTA for years because no one wanted to do it. It was bad enough indeed.

I admire anyone who wants to do that kind of thing for public service. My childhood best friend is one, boy, the stories she tells me of unreasonable constituents.

People have told me I should run for school board, but, wow, what a difficult and thankless job. At least there’s a little joy in my various other PTA-like positions, which, while time consuming, are 95% positive and only 5% dealing with crazies. I think it would be reversed on the school board.

No, never have run for office and never will. I don’t want anyone digging up all the details of my past. I don’t want to answer questions about things like “inhaling.” I wouldn’t want my kids to be harassed or constantly identified as “so-and-so’s son/daughter.”
I’m a behind-the-scenes person and pity those who have to live a public life–every word they say recorded, every move they make photographed–I’d lose my mind. Fame and power mean nothing to me.

If I could get over all that, I think I’d make an excellent public servant. . . ;)
