I thought I wanted to do art in college, therefore haven’t started preparing for traditional college applications and instead, worked on an art portfolio. I now realize that I no longer want to do art, but pursue Liberal Arts in NYU CAS instead. I’m thinking of applying ED, but I’m scared I’ve realized this way too late.

I am taking Sat Subject Test: Eng Lit in Jan, Sat 1 in May and Sat Subject Test: Biology(M) in June. Practice test wise, Eng Lit - 700, Sat 1- 2000, Bio - 680. I am also taking APs in English Lit, Eng Lang, Psychology this year (senior year) and therefore, will only be able to send NYU predicted grades. My regular school subjects are of the Humanities stream - Pyschology (A+), Economics (A), Sociology (A), English Literature (A), English Language (A-), Art (A).

Grades wise, is this enough? Or am I too late?

Wait, you’re a senior and your taking Sat tests into June? I think deadlines for most if not all schools is past for ED. There are some schools still accepting applications into February though for RD. Have you applied anywhere yet?

Are you a senior this year? Your grades are not your primary challenge, the deadlines for a lot of schools have passed. You need to go to the web page for NYU and look up the application deadlines. there are several that have a Jan 15 deadline, so you can still hit those.

I know, but my grades in the 9th and 10th grade were HORRIBLE because I was concentrating on Art and not academics… I’ve only started working towards NYU ED now.

I think you will be fine, you can write somewhere on your application about how you have had a change of heart. Also, what science classes are you taking or will be taking?

Most top universities and LAC’s want you to take 3 or 4 years of a science with lab, preferably AP if you can, especially if you want to major in science.

I definitely don’t wanna major in science in college, I don’t have the skill for that at all. I’d major in something like English Lit, History, Sociology, Psychology… I don’t know but not science! I’ve done the basic level of science (8th to 10th). That doesn’t cut it, does it? Aaaah, okay I’ll see if I can do a course in science somewhere! Thanks for letting me know

What about my earlier grades in the 9th and 10th? They weren’t good at all, I’m scared they’ll affect my chances.

You don’t have to take AP, honors though, chemistry or physics would be good. And it doesn’t matter if you aren’t going to major in science, you still need a minium of 3 sciences. I wouldn’t worry too much about not great grades in 9th and 10th as long as you do well this year and next to show an upward trend. My D wants to major in psychology and all the schools she has applied to want to see 3 o 4 years of science.

Aaaah okay, thanks so much!
Extra curricular wise, what all should I encompass? Sorry I’m loading you with this, no one else is responding I’m very passionate about writing etc. And I’ve been told to indicate to them a direction of my interests

My sister’s grades in the 9th and 10th sucked. In the IB, she did really well and got into NYU ED. I’m hoping the same for myself! I really hope it doesn’t mess up my chances. I’m wondering what ECs to do to increase my chances.
