Hi,
I hope this does not sound like a brag, but my school year next year is kinda boring. At my country we don’t get to choose our classes, and all our classes are Honors level at most.
I’m going to 12th grade, so I had to study for the SAT and its Subject Tests. I’m interested in Math and Science, so I took Math 2, Physics, and Chemistry, where I scored 800, 800, 760, despite not having covered the content in school.
In the upcoming school year I will take Physics and Chemistry classes at the regular level (which is around Honors level in the American curriculum), so I feel I might find it boring. Do you have any suggestions? Note that I do not want my teachers to feel that I am not giving the class enough attention, but I do not know what to do when I get bored.
Ask your teachers for enrichment. See if they can give you anything more rigorous or teach you anything new after class.
You could look for an online college class to further enrich your study.
@pinklinks I’d try to do that, but of course I would want to keep my work load low so that I could do non-school interesting stuff at home. My problem is “what to do during class”. I don’t want to let them feel like I don’t care about the class, but on the other hand it may be annoying to the teacher if I answer all questions correctly during discussion and hence give the others no chance to answer. I do not want to send the wrong signal that either I am a smart yet arrogant student, or someone who does not care. Should I be upfront with them that I already pre-learned the material?
@yonceonhismouth I don’t think I could do this. Actually I am not interested in Physics and Chemistry (my interests are in Math and Computer Science), so I am not very attracted to learning these subjects at a higher level.
I’m thinking of practicing my programming during class but I might get into trouble for this.
Honestly, I don’t see why you can’t just participate in the classes as normal. The curriculum your teachers will have for the class could be different than the content covered on the SAT Subject Tests. You don’t have to be the know-it-all who answers every question, just raise your hand if you see no one else seems to know the answer. Definitely do not focus on other work during class, that is extremely rude. If you can perform well in these classes, you may be able to get one of the teachers to write you a letter of recommendation, so if you find the coursework easy, just focus on forming good relationships with the teachers.
I checked the curriculum guide - everything there I’ve already studied on my own (otherwise I wouldn’t have posted this).
