We have plans to travel to Many Glaciers and are having second thoughts.
The road evidently is pitted and loaded with deep potholes.
We will be in a sedan with low clearance. Some say it is fine just go slow and others say drop the plan. Of course I figure CCers will have the best answer. Anyone?
Take the shuttle instead?
We have. It was no big deal for us. But we drive a lot on mountain roads like that.
H and I went a few years ago. I don’t recall that road as being difficult to navigate. We were in a Land Cruiser so no issues of clearance. We did drive out to Bowman Lake and the Polebridge area on the west side of the park. That road I recall had a lot of pot holes. We arrived on the east side of the park on Labor Day and made our way west. A mix of camping and cabins. It was a beautiful spot.
We drove from the west over going to the sun road and On the Many Glaciers, and we didn’t have any problems, but it was years ago. We loved it - that was our favorite part of the park.

If it was not such low clearance I would shrug but it is plus new so new plan.
Did get on tomorrow’s shuttle so all is good!
When we were on that road in 2016 in a rented sedan we had no problems. Our friends in their rented sedan similarly had no problems with that or any of the Gkaceier/Waterton roads.
Just curious, where is this?
It’s Glacier National Park, I believe. It’s a very lovely area and sone areas of it only open for a short while in mid summer due to snow and ice most of the year.
We are on the East side of Glacier. We took a shuttle to Many Glaciers today.
Tomorrow we go to the West side. Today we saw grizzly about 300 ft away and a brown bear 200 ft away —from a vehicle.
We went last month, when the highest portion of the road was still closed. We drove in from East and West ends as far as possible, and those portions were fine. BUT parking can be an issue, especially we hear during busier times. I highly recommend Red Bus tour - historic and fun. (But it is pricey - our half day tours were $49 each. To see full road, you may need to take full day tour).

They were turning cars away as Many Glaciers parking lot was full: but our shuttle got through.
We are in Whitefish now. H doing a hike and MacDonald lake boat in the am.
I am sleeping in and enjoying Whitefish.
Yes, we loved the red bus tour. We could only do a 1/2 day tour because we didn’t make reservations early enough. We also did two short boat rides. Had a very nice time. We stayed at different places in the park and a few nights at Prince of Wales in Waterton–very like a swiss chalet we were told.
