Have you found a good source of clothing for little old ladies (the 80+ set)?

My mom (81) has so few clothes that fit these days. She has shrunk quite a bit, has lost weight since Dad passed on, and doesn’t have the shopping stamina that she used to. I have looked online and found the type of old people clothes for those who spend a lot of time in bed. When I look at places like Chico’s. I see a lot of sleeveless dresses that would not be flattering on very old arms.

Any ideas of stores, departments within stores, or websites? Looking for church dresses and perhaps a special occasion dress.

My grandmother is 94 and wears regular women’s clothing. She always looks sharp and stylish when she goes out and doesn’t have any old people clothes. She’d probably recommend a young 81 year-older shop in Juniors dept.

Do the proportions still work on her? Maybe Mom needs to shop in Petites, since she has become Petite.

Gotta admit…as much as I hate Macy’s, I found they had great comfortable clothes for my mom when she was in the same situation. Lots of elastic waist slacks, and tops in soft fabrics. Good luck figuring out which department! But they had tons of sets…slacks with shirts that either were pullover or easy buttons. And the shirts were a little longer than to the waist, so flattering and comfortable too.

JC Penneys is a store that appeals to that demographic. Though perhaps their selection changes depending on the area.

Thanks. I’m sure my mom doesn’t have a great desire to dress like a little old lady. However, her proportions have changed, she doesn’t want to show her arms, etc.

D’s adopted Nana is 90 years old and wears regular clothes as well. She too has become quite slim so maybe it’s a matter of finding different sizes. You should find some good choices in TJ Maxx or Marshalls-brand name clothes at lower prices, lots of classic looks. If your mother’s “church clothes” need to be very dressy, “Nana” gets most of her suits online, but I don’t know the site. A quick search turned up many “church suit/dresses” type sites.

Lol about TJ Maxx. In my mother’s world, if they don’t sell it at TJ Maxx or Aldi, it doesn’t exist.
I think I need to get her to the petite dept of Penny’s or Macy’s.

Talbots was the store of choice for my mother and elderly relatives. Great petite offerings.

Oh I had forgotten about Talbots.

The Vermont Country Store has some styles that appeal to my 93 and 86 year old “moms.”

They especially like their robes and nightgowns.

My mom lives in LLBean, very comfortable, breathable fabrics. No interest in fashions that change, sticking with the basics and comfort.

My 84 year old mom has had good luck with the Appleseeds catalog.

My MIL also lives in LLBean clothing.

Mom likes Penneys for Alfred Dunner for day wear but Talbots Women’s Petite for dressy. She is short but heavier set.

Alfred Dunner makes tons of outfits…with tops and elastic waist pull on slacks. Some more dressy, and some casual.

Macy’s carries these. My mom really liked their variety.

Alfred Dunner is a good choice. They seem to have a knack for appealing to the tastes of older women in terms of color and style, and a lot of their clothes are easy to get on and off.

We have an Alfred Dunner outlet in a nearby outlet mall. You might have one, too.

Draper & Damon is a store that seems to work with older women, I am not sure if they have petites, as MIL is not petite

Surprised to see no reccomendations for DressBarn or New York and Company! Lots of stuff for women of all ages.

I would also suggest Talbots. My mother, 92 and usually to be found in jeans, shops there upon occasion.
