I signed up for the Wellness learning community and will be placed on the fifth floor of Haven Hall.

What is the best/worst parts of Haven (walk to class, location, split double rooms, bathrooms, etc.)? Did you join the Wellness LC? If so, how did you like it?

Pros:
The room: A Split Double is literally the best type of room to have as a Freshman. You still have the experience of a roommate, but you can basically change without feeling awkward about it.
The location: Unless you have a lot of lecture classes in the Physics Building or Grant Auditorium, your walk to any class is about 7-10 minutes from the moment you lock your door. The walk to Ernie Davis Dining isn’t all that bad, but it’s definitely one the farthest walks for any dorm to a dining hall. But you’re really close to Kimmel Food Court and Marshall Street (probably the best dorm for both location wise) and that it makes up for it. And it’s not too bad for main campus parties.
And side note, there’s an alley way right across the street from the entrance. That’s your short cut to class. Trust me. It avoids the hill and everyone is eventually going to go that way so mine as well get an early start.

Cons:
The floor setup: It might not upset you, but I was in Haven as a Freshman and the floors are pretty small. And you open your room door to the wall and not another person’s door. One side is all splits (and probably all freshman) but the other side is all singles and none of them are going to socialize. So if you get a good crop of people, maybe you’ll be tight knit. But like it’s just not very Freshman-trying-meet-as-many-people-as-possible friendly. I strongly suggest finding a few people you like on your floor and then checking out other floors to meet more people.
Also no kitchen.

I lived in Haven for 2 years and they were both great. It’s nothing new, but it’s clean. You’re going to hate not having a dining hall in your dorm when it gets cold, but that’s the only thing anyone ever complains about. Literally. But look at it this way. You avoid the freshman 15 when you have to walk to your food. I know I did.

Thanks so much for the info! I tried looking for the alleyway on Google Maps though. Where exactly is it? It’s pretty intriguing hahaha

We found the alley way behind Marion Hall :)
