havent started essay

what shld i do?? (other than “start it asap”) im panicking. been doing rolling admissions apps, not much time to find time to do essay.

argh. aspirin would be nice.

Have you selected a topic?

yes i did. the one on the string. previously i cooked up my own topic but it was quite a dangerous thing to write (not on the quirky side, but on the “we’d better be careful of this applicant” type). so i thrasehed it.

Just start writing . Write 10 sketch essays and then pick the best 3 to develop. then work on those , you’ll trash 2 and eventually youll have an essay you like. think of it as sketching or doodling for now. just start. a perfect essay doesnt jump out of anyones brain…

started about one paragraph, but my brain is in a massive traffic jam now. just staring at the screen…:(

dont worry, i had the same exact problem. for literally 2 months i COULD NOT write the damn thing. then one day i just sat down on the floor in my room and starting writing (not typing… i dunno this sometimes works better for me). first i came out with 2 absolute crap essays before i finally wrote a decent one. good luck! and dont stress, that just makes it harder.

Are you visual? Do you doodle when you’re bored? Or maybe you zone out best to music? Do whatever it is you do, relax, get it all floating in your brain, then things will happen somehow. I started the first sentence of my essay (still not done), while taking a hot shower and wrote it on the mirror in the steam. :stuck_out_tongue: It’ll come naturally.

i got a flash of inspiration, but it was on how to end the essay. i’ve got my teacher to sit down with me and force me to write the essay without thinking other things. maybe that’s why i can’t get it done. i’m not in school after all.

18 more days!! cries

banedon,
so write the end of the **** essay first. Then, write another section - the first, the middle, doesn’t matter.

^^^
I wonder what the **** is, lol.

My advice is to put your essay up for a couple of days. A fresh start should help (it helped me). Like you, my essay (also on string) came mostly as inspiration, so I didn’t force it. I also agree with OHmom’s advice-the end can be the hardest to write, so writing a beginning that fits shouldn’t be too hard. When all else fails, bring in philosophy (my interviewer’s advice).

i finished the first round of it!! now going to do editing and some minor revisions.

ohio_mom, i’m so sorry for whining so much that it got on your nerve and made you used ****. :frowning: I deserve to be shot…

congratulations!! best feeling EVER, no?

banedon - I wouldn’t have used **** if I didn’t do the same thing myself in college! Feels like being stuck in deep mud. I am glad your essay is marching forward.
