My parents are deadset on me going to UVA, even more so than I am, and we have run price calculators/used some info from previous siblings. I am more than willing to withdraw my other applications and commit right now. So long as submitting my CSS profile at this point does not hurt my financial aid package significantly, I’m not too worried.
The response I got was “Yes, we will review you for financial aid when you submit the documents. If you want to know your aid before the May 1 deadline for Admission decisions, you’ll want to get us the CSS Profile by March 1.” Which would lead me to believe that as long as I deal with all my ED agreements and promises I should be good to go.
Calculators change from year to year. You don’t need to submit until March 1st and submitting later isn’t going to alter the number.
But if it comes back at full price, then you’ll pay full price. If they’re deadset on you going, there is no issue.
But you are asking about aid - and on your other thread, you said $35K a year max.
So for engineering, full cost is about $31K for tuition and fees - I don’t think they price protect in year 2-4 so it likely will be more and room and board about $16K-ish.
So it’s mid high 40s.
If they are sending you no matter what, then there is no issue. You can WD your other apps.
If you need to be less, then you need to submit CSS and likely will get an IDOC request - and you likely won’t know by January 15th.
This is all predicated on needing to be $35K which is what your other thread said.
If that’s the case, you should have gotten your docs in long before. You are here asking after - and you are out of order.
But if you’re going no matter what, then you are fine - because aid isn’t relevant to your attendance.
But you are here asking how your aid package will work - and you should have known all these things before you signed a contract.
Congrats again - and go ahead and WD your apps if under $50K a year works (and without loans).
PS - you are not good to go on your ED. They should have been clearer. In your case, that you don’t care about aid, you are going - then it’s correct.
But you have to deposit by Jan 15, so you are not really good with March 1st. And you also need to WD all your other offers - so again, two things can’t be true.
If you are going no matter what, then March 1 is fine.
If you are only going if it’s $35K or less, then March 1st isn’t fine. You need to know by January 15h. So you/your parents erred and your parents need to do the CSS today.
That sounds like a cookie cutter response for regular decision. Your deadline for accepting is not 1 May.
I don’t think the response you quote above is relevant. That sounds like an automated response, because it did not recognize that you were an ED applicant and your enrollment deadline is not May 1.
Enrolling without a financial aid package in hand is not a wise move.
Submit your CSS today, and then next week, call the financial aid office to find out when you might expect your package - and emphasize that you were admitted ED with a Jan 15 enrollment deadline.
Just to clarify, the Jan 15th deposit deadline is also the deadline to withdraw other applications?
As soon as you commit to UVA, you withdraw other applications.
Technically, the deadline is now. You were accepted. Read your ED contract.
You must enroll. You most withdraw - now.
Shame on the schools for ensuring these kids know what they sign up for. And the parents and counselors as well fir having you 100% buttoned up on aid implications.
You should have asked all this before, not after applying. If money is a factor for you, you erred applying ED and not applying for aid to see if affordable right away.
Read your contract but while you can deposit on Jan 15 (some have cash flow issues), you should WD the rest today….by rule.
Yes, if money matters you’d be foolish to withdraw today but you are also violating a contract which you, your parents and school counselor signed.
So basically its a race between the Jan 15th deadline to commit and whenever my financial aid package comes in.
It’s only a race because you haven’t submitted the CSS, it seems. Are you working on that this weekend?
So your parents are dead set on having you go to this school, but have not submitted the CCS profile. ? What is the hold up ? Why was it not submitted ?
My guess is that if you get your CSS Profile in now, you can talk with the admissions office about waiting for the aid package vs the enrollment deadline. Maybe they will work with you on that.
The main mystery of this thread is why you seem to be stalling on getting the CSS Profile submitted ASAP. If you misunderstood, then get the form in now, so that you have a chance of getting your package by the enrollment deadline.
I submitted it earlier today and sent an email to SFS asking if there was anyway they could expedite a package before the 15th.
You will still need IDOC if they ask.
I don’t understand why your parents don’t run the NPC. Several years ago isn’t today.
You’ll get an idea. Also if it comes in low (let’s say $20k and you get no aid, you have a basis to question - why).
Bit if your parents are dead set on you attending, then no need to rush. That, to me, sounds like there is doubt if the cost is too high.
None of this changes the fact that by rule, you should be withdrawing all other apps today. Not Jan 15.
We have run calculators. I’m saying that based on the calculator and the fact that my brothers attended without a hitch made my parents extremely confident that I can attend and are 100 percent willing to pay.
Net price calcs alongside InTuition estimate roughly 6k out of pocket (Taking into consideration need-based scholrships and pell grants)
That should give great confidence then. But don’t use my intuition.
NPC Alone estimates 4k out of pocket, this with my parents STRONG push towards UVA has given me enough confidence to start withdrawing my other applications. I do not want to risk a rescindation if they believe I’m not actively withdrawing.
I wouldn’t do this. Make sure it’s affordable, then accept, then withdraw your other applications. You don’t need to withdraw your others until you’ve committed.
Yeah you are out of process but wait just in case.
If they have other kids, make sure they stay in order.
