Haven't Submitted CSS Profile, How will my aid package work?

I’m pretty naive to all this financial aid stuff, I’ve only submitted FAFSA not the CSS Profile. I’ve been admitted to UVA ED, however I still have not received an aid package(I’m assuming because I haven’t done CSS Profile yet). If I submit the profile will I receive an estimate of aid somewhat quickly or do packages come out all at once and not at admission?

You could call and ask the financial aid department at UVA.

You did apply ED so that means that you will attend, no matter what. If you don’t get what you expect for financial aid, then you can decline your admission. If it’s not affordable for you, that’s your only reason to Not accept admission.

You should fill out the CSS profile, but no one knows if you’ll get the financial aid that you expect. The only ones to know that information would be the financial aid department.

So I can hold off on withdrawing my other applications until receiving a financial aid offer after submitting css?

You have caused this delay by not submitting the Profile adhering to the ED deadline. You need to submit the Profile today…and whatever UVA requires for need based financial aid consideration.

I would contact UVA financial aid first thing Monday morning and let them know you are submitting the Profile. THEN I would suggest you contact admissions to see IF they will give you an extension on accepting or declining their ED offer of admission.

At this point, you have an incomplete financial aid application at UVA and that is not the college’s fault. ED applicants are expected to adhere to all the deadlines for ED applicants. And that includes the Profile.

Yes, but you have to make your best effort to get your CSS in ASAP as thumper said.

Do you have questions on the CSS/need help?

Please do not withhold your CSS simply so you can keep your other apps in.

If a student did that at my d’s school, the guidance counselor would not send mid term grades to any other schools, and parents and students would be called in to be reminded of the ED rules.

OP, if you are intentionally delaying, you may get your offer rescinded. Get your CSS in ASAP.

Why have you not submitted the CCS profile? I do not see them giving you an estimate of aid based on FAFSA alone.

UVA requires the CSS Profile. Until that is submitted, the financial aid application is not complete, and won’t be processed at.all.

Why wasn’t the CSS submitted?
Did you not read, nor understand the requirements of ED? The counselor and school put you forward as an ED candidate. It affects the reputation of the high school. Do they know that you haven’t followed through and submitted all of the required financial forms? Do whatever you need to do to get those supporting documents in, NOW.

Did you run the net price calculator ? If not you have no basis to turn down UVA. You signed a binding contract. And guess what, you have to deposit by Jan 15 so you’re in a huge bind, self created. You gamed the system and congrats on getting in but look what you created.

Lucky for you they don’t have an ED deadline and say specific to all types of admission by March 1 for CSS. UVA should tighten that up. But you do have to deposit and withdraw - Jan 15.

But your family should do the NPC and it’s likely you’ll know. I put below. You should not have applied ED unless it showed a number you can work with.

For now, keep your other apps in but hope none of them find out that you didn’t withdraw. You gamed here - and that’s wrong.

I hope you get the cost you need. But unless you did the NPC prior you should not have applied ED.

From UVA who also notes ED is not an advantage. We maintain a consistent review throughout the application process so there is no advantage to choosing one application plan over another.

Early Decision is a binding admission plan for students who have determined that UVA is their first choice and who feel they can present a strong application without senior grades being reviewed. Students admitted through the Early Decision admission plan are required to cancel their applications elsewhere and enroll in UVA. Decisions of admit, deny, or defer will be released by December 15th. Admitted students are expected to submit deposits by January 15.

If you withdraw, you need to add schools that will assuredly hit your budget, whether you want them or not, and many are noted on your chance of admission thread - where cost concerns were also addressed.

It seems UVA does not actually require CSS - as long as the applicant understands that they are not allowing themselves to get all available funding?

We recommend completing the Profile only if you believe you will qualify for and/or want to be considered for all forms of need-based financial aid.

If you are interested only in federal financial aid, complete and submit only the 2026-2027 FAFSA.

So quite possible that they have assessed OP without this as it wasn’t submitted. It is odd that there is no aid package at all though, and agree OP should contact the office asap Monday morning.

On another thread, this poster said they were full Pell Grant eligible. UVA meets full need…but ONLY if you have submitted a complete financial aid application.

I think this student needs to call UVA financial aid. Since they are full Pell Eligible, it’s very possible they are also eligible for need based aid at UVA. Perhaps the financial aid office can advise them.

They also need an extension on committing to that ED acceptance. That needs to be done with admissions. Perhaps finaid will be processed immediately when the application materials are all received, and perhaps that will be soon.

The poster needs to contact BOTH admissions and financial aid Monday. And they need to submit the profile TODAY.

But UVA is not obliged to give them an extension because they didn’t submit an optional financial aid form on time. I would hope that they will be understanding and do so, but OP really needs to get ducks in a row ASAP and hope the college is flexible.

I would also try calling today on the chance someone is working the weekend after decisions.

I am planning on accepting my ED offer, around two weeks I shot an email to the financial services and they explained that it was alright to submit the CSS profile after my admissions decision. I’m just wondering when a financial package would come in following this.

What is the deadline to accept the ED offer?

January 15th

There’s no deadline. It’s ED. It’s assumed.

But the deposit in by January 15 and OP is unlikely to have an aid offer by then.

The simple thing is to run the NPC - so you have an idea.

Why isn’t your family doing this - you’ll know now.

It’s not just CSS, btw. UVA is also an IDOC school which means your parents may have to upload things like W2s, 1099s, bank account and brokerage statements (if they have). They don’t just go by what you say - but they verify.

Only FA knows. Every FA office is different. Every applicant’s timeline is different. Some students get their FA letter with their admission notices. Some get them within a couple of weeks. Each office has university timelines. Student responses affect those timelines. Contact FA.

That’s quite a generous timeline compared to some other schools. Still, given that winter break is likely to be a dead week when financial aid office isn’t working, I’d suggest you get everything in asap so that you can be sure it’s affordable before you accept.
