Hey everyone I recently submitted my Haverford College ED application and had a few questions about it. From talking to my counselor and looking at the main private schools college data, I learned that I am probably the only ED applicant or one of few ED applicants in my state (Hawaii). Does that significantly improve my chances of being accepted? I am also a first generation student and was wondering if that gave me a better chances as well.
Both likely add impact but if your profile isn’t up to par or close to up to par, then it likely won’t impact.
At the same time, they are need aware. Only about 40% get need. Most are full pay. That means, they can use high need against you. Doesn’t mean they will, but they can - if you have it.
Those that get, receive $66k on average.
At this point, wait and see but ensure your back up apps get in b4 their deadlines.
Best of luck.
Welcome!
So one of the many reasons why highly selective holistic review college admissions is so hard to predict (at least among competitive applicants) is that the answer to your state of origin question could conceivably depend on which it was–are you the only, or one of a few? And of course you would have to be competitive to begin with.
To some extent that applies to FGLIs as well. Haverford does have a general “pro-FGLI” sort of policy, including the Cheswick Scholars Program. However, what you don’t really know is what other FGLIs will be applying to Haverford this year, including ED.
My two cents is having applied, your best course at this point is to try to get on with other things! Easier said than done, I know, but you will in fact get your decision soon enough. And typically the sorts of kids looking at colleges like Haverford (and many others) have plenty else they can be doing in the meantime.
