Having trouble weaving my personal life with my dreams/aspirations

One of MIT’s short essays asks you to describe the world you come from and also the influence that world has had on your dreams or goals. Obviously, this essay is very personal but I feel like every personal experience I think to write about has no relation to my dreams whatsoever.

I don’t want to be cliche and write about being encouraged to work hard and wanting to go to college/become an engineer, etc

I’m loaded with deeply personal experiences that have influenced me in some way or another as a person but their relation to what my dreams and aspirations are is nil. How many ways can I say I want to start a family. have a high-paying job, and enjoy what I do?

Great question!

One I am looking for an answer to as well. lol.

For the University of California system, one of the prompts is almost identical to the one mentioned.

I have many personal experiences, and I feel my “world” is quite interesting (I am of mixed race and my sister is adopted) yet I can’t seem to come up with how this world has shaped my dreams.

As JDong said, at this point I feel my dreams really do consist of going to college, living a comfortable life, and enjoying what I do, and I can’t draw a strong thread of why my world shaped these aspirations.

Any ideas?
