Hawaiian Roll Recipes

Trying to get some threads going that are NOT about getting old or money!!

I was never one to buy or be on the Hawaiian roll train. I’m sure there is very little nutritional value in them. If that is your only comment (that you don’t eat them because they are garbage) probably best to move past this thread…. :waving_hand:

There have been a lot of recipes both sweet and savory using these rolls. Do you have a favorite? Please share!

This morning I made one (I’ll try and find a reachable link) I saw on TikTok for cinnamon rolls. I have to say they are quite delicious and taste very much light a light yeast roll version. An easy recipe for guests or a brunch.

I did just use one stick of butter for the entire recipe so 6 T in the cinnamon mixture and then 2T in the frosting.

We like hamburger sliders- cut them across the long way and on the bottom layer put ground beef, bacon, cheese, ketchup, etc as you wish. Melt a little butter and brown sugar to drizzle on top and bake about 18 minutes.

Also if you have leftover roast beef use that and some provolone, top with butter and garlic salt and bake, then dip in au jus.

Yes, I did similar a couple weeks ago with leftover brisket. Buttered the pan, cut the Hawaiian roll block of 12 in half (to create a large top and bottom bun) then layered brisket, peppers, onion and provolone. Topped the buns, melted a little butter/garlic, brushed them and bake.

These make terrific warmed up ham and cheese or Turkey and cheese sandwiches!

I have an old NYT do-ahead ā€œtravelā€ recipe that I like to do when we go on our beach vacation at the Jersey shore. Slice a pork tenderloin into medallions and marinate in bottled margarita mix (non-alcoholic) with some minced garlic. Freeze in a ziplock bag, then pack in your cooler if traveling. Defrost when ready to use, and grill the marinated medallions. Serve on Hawaiian rolls with a vinegar slaw or toppings of choice. We like to add grilled pineapple. Maybe a slice of Monterey Jack or some other kind of melty cheese. I like to do this for our first night of beach vacation - easy and quick but festive to eat on the deck overlooking the bay.

A similar option is to do pork tenderloin medallions with BBQ sauce. Works great for leftover pork tenderloin.

Freeze it all, in a heavy ziplock bag. Throw some salt and pepper into the mix as well. Minced garlic to taste. The original recipe is for 12 pork loin chops, 4.5 cups of margarita mix, 6 Tbs garlic, 5 tsp salt and 3 tsp pepper.

I brought ham and Swiss cheese on Hawaiian roll sliders to every Boy Scout pot luck gathering for many years. Squeeze bottle of spicy mustard next to the platter. There were rarely any leftovers.

How about any typical Hawaiian dish like kalua pig, teriyaki chicken, poke, various fish, loco moco, Spam musubi, kimchi, etc. but served as sliders in the Hawaiian rolls instead of with rice?
