My son pledged last year - hazing yes. Mainly consuming “concoctions” (disgusting food combos), physical stuff (holding planks) and other stupid stuff (definitely lack of sleep) but he loved it. He has heard about money hazing (the story he heard was the pledge class had to buy a Rolex and throw it off a bridge) but that could be totally made up to keep the mystique. There are frats that do not haze at all, others haze to varying degrees. The rep of frats is known so if he wants no hazing at all, have him ask around when he gets there. That said, this fall SMU really policed hazing and I was told that it was far less than in the past. As a parent, I was not happy with his decision to pledge a frat that was known to haze, but it did work out, he loves his frat and would not have done it differently. Hope that helps!!
