Heading in the right direction?

<p>Northern Virginia Rising Junior in High School wondering if I am heading in the right direction for getting into one of my dream schools University of Virginia, and with my interests, is it the right match for me?</p>

<p>I’ve been on college searches with my family but none have been focused on me at this point. I’m not sure where to begin, I know that I love UVA and have wanted to go there for years but I obviously want to look into what else is out there, not necessarily only Virginia Schools.</p>

<p>Interests:
Economics–Math/Statistics
International Business
Travel
Photojournalism/Design</p>

<p>The conscientious student that I am I have my schedule planned out for the last 2 years of my high school career:</p>

<p>Here is what I have taken/will take beginning with 10th grade:</p>

<p>10th:
AP World History
Chemistry
Honors English
Math Analysis (for those unfamiliar with the class: 1st semester is Pre-Calc, 2nd semester is Calculus AB)
Photojournalism
French III</p>

<p>11th:
AP US History
AP Chemistry
Honors English
AP Psychology
AP Calculus AB
Yearbook (I will be the editor in chief of the yearbook)
French IV</p>

<p>12th:
AP Government
Physics
AP Literature
AP Microeconomics
AP Macroeconomics
AP Statistics
AP Calculus BC
Yearbook
AP French V</p>

<p>Extra Curriculars:
-Yearbook Editor in Chief (this takes up a lot of time in school and out)
-Volunteering
-Organization of a local Help the Homeless walk
-High School athletics (so far both freshman and sophomore year, hopefully 11th and 12th)
-International Service Club (traveled to Jamaica over the summer to help a poor Jamaican community)
-French Club</p>

<p>-Plan to Start up French Club and or International Service Club (redistricting of my school is cutting my class in half)</p>

<p>-So far my cumulative GPA is a weighted 4.19
-I do not know my current class ranking but have been told that it should at least be in the top 5-10% margin
-My school is getting split in half so, i am now in a class of about 360 rather than my previous class of about 530</p>

<p>Any advice would be much appreciated, sorry for making this thread so long.
I plan to study for my SAT’s this summer, PSAT scores have been OK the past two years, nothing lower that 87th percentile in any area, but hope to bring my critical reading scores up.</p>

<p>Re-reading my message after posting makes me think that my EC’s are pretty lame, not sure if I am entirely blanking at the moment because its late but. Also because I am only a rising junior National Honors Society will be coming this year. </p>

<p>My course plan is also all in my hopes that I continue to do as well as I always have, all A’s and A+'s with the occasional B+.</p>

<p>I just got my AP World test score back today…got a 3 and was pretty disappointed, how much do AP test scores really matter?</p>

<p>I think that you are on track. Your ECs are not lame- you have leadership on the yearbook and it is a huge commitment. I would not worry about the AP exam. You should just keep doing what you are doing, keep your grades as high as you can without undue stress, and study for the SAT. Great SAT scores always help. Spend time on your application, and apply as early as you can, too.</p>

<p>Thank you for your feedback! I have seen some of the EC’s people have on here and I become flabbergasted! I am very excited about being editor and will definitely focus and study hard these next few years!</p>
