Heading to Prague tomorrow for summer abroad + internship. Obviously, I hope to do more than just those two things as this is my first time in Europe. Is there anything I should know/look for? Thanks!
Make sure to give your folks a xerox of your passport to keep in case you have yours lost or stolen.
Prague will be a zoo worse than Disneyland on its busiest day by mid July, when all the European kids get out of school. It’s a magical place though. Mid July on, try to get out of Prague and see other places. Many other places accesible by coach, which is excellent value. Lots of pickpockets. Taxis will rip you off unless you confirm the price beforehand. You can bargain prices down for concerts. Czech food is terrible. Eat anything else. You will get student discounts if you have an International student ID card. Investigate the incredible Art nouveau movement that was prominent at the time. Alfonse Mucha stained glass windows are stunning in the church up on the hill, forget what it’s called, but Dvorak is buried there. Really neat cemetery. Nice park, great views. Busses are super cheap, good way to get around. Buy a daily ticket at the tobacconist before boarding. No doubt you have a Lonely Planet. It will all be in there. Have fun!
