Headline reads: School Official Wants Gays Dead

I am stunned this kind of thing can happen in 2010. It is truly scary to think such quality folks are influencing our kids’ education.

http://advocate.com/News/News_Features/Arkansas_School_Board_Member_Thinks_Fags_Should_Die/</a></p>

This is a school board member?

Well, at least he’s honest. What he says is no worse than what thousands of people say every day in comments on every single story about LGBT issues that gets published anywhere on the Internet that permits comments. The only difference is that he’s stupid enough to attach his name to his comments. I imagine he thinks that in his community, it won’t hurt him.

If I say anything more, this thread will have to be moved to the election and politics forum.

Someone should forward this idiot to the dept in the US govt that sent bullying guidelines out today to thousands of public schools and colleges across the country

[Federal Government to Schools: Stop Bullies … or Else! | TakePart - Inspiration to Action](http://www.takepart.com/news/2010/10/26/federal-government-sends-message-to-schools-bullying-must-be-stopped)

Of course, this sentence he wrote suggests that there are other reasons why he shouldn’t be anywhere near a school board:

They’ll know better than to be born gay? How does one achieve that knowledge?

^^^^DonnaL, that would actually be almost funny if the stakes weren’t so high.

“thereselves”

Wow, not just any bigot, but a bigot who failed English class.

I hope he gets booted out. What a disgrace for a person like that to be on a school board.

That is just so sad. How anyone can think like that is beyond me.

Since schools punish kids when pictures of them holding beer cans show up on FaceBook, I hope they’re just as vigilant when FB reveals that a school board member is a raging homophobic fool.

I was proud of DS and DD last week when both of them appeared for school with a bit of purple on. I hadn’t been paying attention to the news, so I didn’t even know it was that day.

^^^^^I rarely wear purple, but I did that day purely by chance. I was confused by the first few comments I received, but after reading the morning paper, I finally understood. :)

Sad but not surprising that this hasn’t made mainstream news yet.

It is getting picked up now. Will be covered on CNN tonight with Anderson Cooper 360.

How did this guy get elected to anything? Was he running unopposed or maybe against someone who died halfway through the campaign? Was he appointed? What a disgusting excuse for a public official/school board member/human being.

This is one dumb hick in a small town in Arkansas, and so far, pretty much everybody is piling on against him, including the local people. It’s heinous, but I would point out that it’s tremendous progress that anybody in Arkansas is wearing purple to support LGBT issues.

The great thing about all of this is the government will be paying his unemployment starting tomorrow. <<<sarcasm fully=“” intended=“”>>></sarcasm>

I mean really. Is one born this dumb or was he just educated in the system he now governs?

Well the person who broke the story, someone I know, was concerned about whether going to the media would help or hurt. He was concerned that it would only help get McCance re-elected, believe it or not. He know from where he speaks, having grown up as a gay person in this town and all his family is still there.

Of course with this much press, and going national, everyone will distance themselves from it publicly and say the politically correct thing (but what they still really think and how they really make decisions is another story, and what really matters).

Maybe it is just dumb rednecks in rural towns who are stupid enough to publicize their homophobia, but he is far far from alone. Just look at the anonymous comments from around the nation that side with this idiot. If you don’t believe it, just wait until the story gets from NPR and LA Times to Foxnews. Then tell me it’s just some dumb hick in Arkansas.

Funny I had earlier posted this wasn’t in the mainstream news, which I found sad. Now I saw the show on CNN and have noticed it a lot more in the regular media I read on line. waitforit, I don’t believe Fox will be picking up this story!

Clint McCance has resigned and apologized, according to AP.
[UPDATE: Midland school official quits](<a href=“UPDATE: Midland school official quits”>UPDATE: Midland school official quits)

Just saw that story and was going to post a link.

Let’s face it, we all saw it coming.

Had he not resigned, the whole school district would have looked like idiots.

How sad! Gives teachers permission to continue their bullying.

I hope I end up in a heaven separate from the one he expects to be attending.

His “apology” is a steaming pile of BS. “Oh, I had no idea I was being hurtful. Just because I was, you know, wishing the ‘queers’ would all commit suicide, just because I said that doesn’t mean I want gay kids to commit suicide. Even though I just said that. Yesterday.”
