Yowza! I just did my healthcare enrollment for 2026. Same plan as I currently have. Same coverage. Same Rx coverage. Same insurance carrier. Premium basically doubled.
Ouch.

Not a response to anyone. I was looking at heatlhcare.gov. Definitely not a bargain. All of a sudden I am much more grateful for the rates I pay through my employerās health insurance offerings.
21 more months, argh.
ACA plan. Do not qualify for subsidies, didnāt last year either.
21% increase from last year!
I use a broker thatās offered from my husbandās former employer. They asked if I was happy with last years plan, when I clicked yes, it said that I can keep my old plan
The problem? Nowhere did it say what the price would be this year. I had to cross check and found out a 21% increase.
WTH!
Iām aware this is a no answer post, Iām happy to discuss if anyone wants to start one.
My insurance went WAY up, too. Iām actually going to have switch policies because the one I have (and have had for several years now) is just not affordable anymore. Unfortunately, my oncologist will now be out of network, so I will have to transfer over all of my care, which is espeically a PITA when you have a serious health issue.
Both me and my husbands policies went up $271/month each, so next year our policies will cost about $42,400 a year for the both of us. And this is subsidized by our employer through a union negotiated deal. Unfortunately our union negotiated it 30 years ago, at 1990 health care rates. ![]()
We will go with a high deductible plan, which also jumped up $271/month per person, which is about $32,400, still crazy expensive. Just sickening.
My plan increased by 23%. I am not eligible for any subsidy. I looked at a variety of alternative plans - not a significant discount, meds not covered, providers no longer in network. I wonāt be 65 until 2028.
I feel lucky because even though my cost is ridiculous, Iām able to eat and pay my mortgage
Iām the lucky one . Iām sad for those who arenāt.
You may be able to ask your new insurance company to authorize in-network rates for your oncologist under a āsingle case agreementā, citing complexity of your condition and continuity of care for a serious medical condition.
We have had luck with that for other medical needs. I hope it works for you.
Iām switching to Kaiser, so unlikely since they are all in-house. At least Iāve heard generally good things about their cancer care.
(The funny thing is that in all previous years Kaiser was actually MORE expensive than Sutter, which is what I currently have; suddenly this year, Kaiser is HUNDREDS of dollars LESS per month than Sutter. Thatās how high Sutter jacked up my rates.)
Omg
Timing is not good with uncertainty on congressional decisions. Not sure how the ACA carriers know what to charge. Or are they assuming no tax credit applied?
That is just horrible.
Does that include any Medicare coverage?
I suspect these increases and the flying Thanksgiving season will bring agreement within two weeks, hopefully with affordable prices for those who need it.
Reminder that this thread is currently in the cafe. Please move the political discussions to the PF.
Thank you!
What I read somewhere is that the ACA insurance companies are expecting subsidies to lapse, which will lead to healthy people dropping insurance, leaving a sicker overall population of insurance holders.
And theyāve raised their rates substantially to reflect that.
Which will lead to more healthier people dropping insurance, and even bigger price increases. The so-called ādeath spiralā scenario.
The ACA policy we have currently costs about $33k/year for the two of us, of which about 50% is paid by state and federal subsidies. Iām afraid to see how much itās going up.
We will not qualify for subsidies next year, so I have to research other plans. The good (?) news is that we both start Medicare halfway through the year.
I just signed up with the company in open enrollment - about $2.2k (yearly) for the four of us - medical, dental, vision.
The company informs their contribution is over $26k.
So fortunate.
Paying a subsidized company fee you donāt realize the true cost. It makes you that much more thankful.
After you log into your healthcare dot gov account this message is at the top of the page
The additional savings available because of the COVID pandemic end on December 31, 2025. If you qualify for savings in 2026, youāll likely pay more for your Marketplace plan premium. Complete your 2026 application to find out if you qualify for savings and compare plans to find one that meets your needs.
Itās pretty clear
Nope, weāre 62. Canāt believe that Iām looking forward to turning 65!
Our employer adds approximately $4800/person as a subsidy, so this insurance would actually go for $9600 a year more for the both of us.
Which is 52K/yr. Is that even freaking possible that thereās policies out there that expensive? Iām checking my math!!
Yāall made me nervous so I had dh again check our insurance for next year (we get it through the state teacher retirement system). Like he told me weeks ago, our premium is staying the same. Phew. Our deductible is going up, but only a couple of hundred dollars. I feel really lucky.
